Do not leave a note. Do not leave an anonymous note. Do not go directly to the manager. Try to befriend them instead. They may not know that they are being so noisy. If they don't respond favorably to your kind gesture, then you can go to the manager and seek advice, but it is always best to address these things directly, at first.
EXAMPLE: Go up there and knock on the door, "Hi. I'm your neighbor from below. (Smile, shake hands, etc...) I was wondering if everything was all right because I heard a lot of noise and it sounded like someone might be in distress (Just don't tell them it was you in distress over the noise)."
This will most likely prompt them to evaluate what it is that you had heard and they will explain, trying to reassure you they are alright.
Then you say, "Oh I am so relieved, because it was so loud that I was a bit worried. I suppose these walls and floors aren't very sound proof."
If they are decent human beings they will realize that they need to keep it down in the future... You now have a neighbor that appreciates you looking out for their well being and hopefully they will use that incident as a gauge to their future noise making and try to keep it down.
The best thing for you to do is to BEFRIEND them so that they aren't inclined to ignore you down there and once they learn you are a student they will try to help you out rather than kick you out with incessant clamoring!

Yes. And if you're non-confrontational the best way to handle it is to assure yourself that you are in the right.
Look up the laws for your city and state on this issue. Check maximum decibels for your area against the amount of decibels they're using. If they are breaking the law, threaten to contact the police. If they refuse to stop, or if you can't threaten them, go ahead and call your local station. DO NOT CALL 911! This is not an emergency. Find your local police station in a phone book.
If the legal matter continues, you may call a lawyer. Yes, a lawyer! Since you have confirmed you are in the right, and the police fail to act upon it, you may sue both the people above you and the state. This problem is a blessing.
Do:
-Have evidence
-Affirm you're in the right
-Have confidence
Don't:
-Call 911
-Lose your cool
-Try to fight back with noise
-Assume that just because they play loud music, that they are bad people who won't be understanding

Yes I have had this problem many many times. You could maybe write a letter or something and put on there door. When thier not there and tell them what is going on.If that does not work then you could say something to tne mangement. Dont be worried of offending them you just do it nicely and you should be fine.
hope I could help

Have a chat with landlord. This is unreasonable. Would cost them more to keep on renting your suite over and over again than give these people a warning.
Put a note on their door, big letters, anonymously."the police will be called, if the noise keeps up".
May have to move again, nothing is worth your peace.

Ask them to a dinner or lunch and then casually in conversation say "oh i left my last place because it was so noisy isn't that frustrating?" when they agree say "oh good i hoped you might think the same way because you yourself have been quite loud" or something like that but do it politely otherwise they'll just be horrible about it. or just record them and play it back louder at night what ever works best :0)

The proper way to handle it is to go to management and tell them. Also inform them that you do not want to cause any problems. They will talk to the tenants and hopefully resolve the problem. 1 other thing to try is to also talk to your neighbors to find out what they think as well. They may feel the same as you do.

I would ask them nicely to please make less noise especially in the evening and explain to them that you live right below them. or take it to the owner of the building. i live in a condo and if somebody has a problem with me (for instance my neighbor said my dogs bark too much) they take it to the condo association maybe you could see from your landlord if you have something like that or who you could talk to about it maybe even anonymously

Yup. All the time. Try hitting the ceiling with a broom, They'll get the idea, and probably wont be too insulted. If you don't want to do that, talk to your land lord/lady. It should help.
Good Luck!

You need to get some balls and just go up there and talk to them about the noise.

Wow--you may need some kind of padding on the ceiling.
You need permission or help from the landlord.
DON'T tell the landlord 'who'--just ask him how you can keep your apt. 'quieter'
