I had a few network problems a while back on my home PC (bloody AOL again), their live help instructed me to do a few things with my internet connection settings and since that time my IE7 has not worked. After loads of calls to AOL the situation is as follows, i had to uninstall IE7 then download IE6, which i done, problem is, when i try to load IE6 a warning dialogue comes up saying 'the computer already detects a more modern version of IE6 and cannot continue'. I've gone through all programmes and cant find anything to do with IE7 on my PC. Aol told me to go to start, run, d:\iesetup.exe and it detected a few icons during the search which i was told to pin to the start menu, but, when i click them to activate IE7, the same warning message comes up. I'm now stuck with a PC that dont have IE and thats causing me a few problems, any ideas please?? Apart from chucking the pc in the bin!!!

You answered your own question. AOell, is perhaps one of the worst written things on the planet. It won't even uninstall properly. Even after uninstall, its usually still running. (go to msconfig, processes, WOW, it's still running)

If all you need to do is limp along, uninstall AOell in dd/remove first. Then uninstall ALL toolbars. Then go into tools, manage add ons, disaable them ALL. REBOOT. Now, you can now probably add one tool bar back (more is NOT better). NOT AOell!!!! Upgrade to a GOOD isp. I agree with bassclef, use firefox as a substitute if you just need the band aid. Its a well made browser.

If you want to do it RIGHT, back up your data. Reinstall everything. AOL is in several hundred places in your registry if you've removed it through add/remove programs and is probably still running.

It's not your PC's fault, it will only do what it's told. Remember that term "garbage in, garbage out" ? AOell, enough said.

without spending a lot of time going over the same. have you used fireflx
- firefox.com

as an alternative browser?
- system restore to take the computer back to a point when it was working.
start\programs\accessories\system tools\system restore
