Well once you get through basic and AIT, it's pretty similar to any other job. Biggest differences are the PT every morning, formations, barracks life(good and bad), and of course going to the field(that's when you spend a week or 2 out in the wild training for actual battle). There's a lot to learn when you first get in but once you get the hang of everything it's cool. A lot of it depends on the MOS you choose and your duty station. The best part of it is that you really do things you never thought you could and you get a chance to feel that sense of pride and honor. If you have any specific questions, hit me up I'll be happy to answer.

It all depends on what your MOS (job description) and your permanent station is gonna be. Its all the same for everybody at first with basic training 3 months or so. I went to Ft. Sill, O.K., it was very demanding and stressfull, but then my advanced individual training (AIT) was at Ft. Sam Houston, that was a breeze.
My first duty station was Korea, I learned a whole heap over there.
Two main things to remember that got me through eight years in the army
1) "hurry up and wait" its kinda like rushing to a red light.
2) "nothing said/told to you is written in stone" so always expect changes, its a given. Lets say you are told your company will be deployed in 6 months and you wanna take vacation before that, all of a sudden they might tell you you cant take vacation again cause you are now deploying in 2 months. Prepare yourself to expect things like that and it will make your tenure a whole lot easier. Its not going to make it any easier to whine about things like that.
The hardest ones to deal with this is always the family members.

It's a pretty normal life after basic and AIT. You just go to work in uniform. If you are combat arms then it's different than a normal life, of course. You can relax after work, but remember what you are still, a soldier, because you are judged at all times and always subject to the rules. Be a pro, you'll be fine.

All depends on your MOS, same is true for all the branches.
Be a Marine Grunt son you will always wonder about it unless you do it. If you must "Go Army" still be a grunt and get to Rangers. I like Rangers their some tough bastards.
Thanks to all my brothers and sisters this Memorial Day

My co-worker is a Marine and when I asked him what it was like to kill someone a few days ago (via AIM), this is what he said, "It's like you're excited that you hit your target and you're happy. Then you realize that the person is done, he ain't gonna walk, talk, or breathe no more and then you're in shock. Then you're in remorse like it didn't happen and like you didn't do it. Then you're mad then after all that you do it again and every time it gets easier. Actually after you've done it the first time it's really not that hard to do it."
I think what he said was just so powerful and upsetting... That's terrible that a human life can be so easily taken away and after a few under your belt, you just don't value it anymore.

Oh dear God, go into the Air Force, they treat their personnel much better. Army life isn't that bad, really. I just know from experience that the Air Force is better. Good luck to you and God bless.

It's tough, at times physically demanding and often very rewarding. It's all what YOU make of it. Try to keep a good attitude and it's, generally, not so bad.
