Literally it means...

What does life tell you over there.. Or What is life saying over there...

But what a person means when he/she says this is:
What is happening in you life and how is it affecting you?!
OR
What's up?!

Most everybody who responded previously is giving you literal translation from Spanish to English, and that is a no-no in many instances. Occasinally, you have to find an equivalent phrase in the target language to avoid sounding funny, and this is one of those cases. I would translate it like this:

"How's life over there"?

or

"How's life where you're at"?

or

"How are things going over there"?

Hope it helps.

In this case "cuenta" means tell me, not what does life tell you.
