All part of the plan to create Greater Israel. As soon as the Bushite tribe of rightwing Christian Zionists can restore the tribe of Israel to complete mastery of the Middle East then Jesus gets to return and Hoover them all into Heaven.

Who cares about World Stability or World Peace when Heaven itself is the prize!

Just pay attention to what Pat Robertson, the True Ruler of America says.

Safer? It certainly does not appear so. The violence that our overthrow of Saddam has caused will last a good 10 or 20 years. The US was instrumental in helping Saddam come into power, we supplied the Iraq military with weapons and equipment, trained most of the Republican guard, supported them again in their war with Iran, turned our heads at some of Saddam's less diserable tactics. IF anything the secular government Saddam set up in Iraq was somewhat of stabilizing force in the region.

Though he was a terrible tyrant and oppressed his people and killed anyone who disagreed with him or challenged his policies, I don't think the world as a whole is safer without him.

I was not unhappy to see him removed from power, but what has happened since then has been tragic and disastrous. Iraq needs a strong and just new leader, and I don't think that's going to happen soon. One can hope and pray for it, though.

The things is, though, Saddam was put in power only because of the support of the US. That support was withdrawn in 1991. I think eventually his own people would have removed him from power.

Well, Saddam was never really a "worldwide" threat. In many ways he was a convenient villain for the Mighty Allies to defeat and bring to justice thus "justifying" our invasion of Iraq.

Now don't get me wrong, I shed no tears for Saddam. He was a nasty piece of work but he was also never the supervillian that the Bush & Blair administrations wanted us to think he was (WMD's? I don't remember saying anything about WMD's!)

In the end, things are no better or worse than when Saddam was in power. People are still dying for pointless reasons in that country.

Safer long term? Probably. Safer right now? Nope.

Saddam kept his country in check. He was a malicious bastard and used cruel ways to do it, but he prevented civil war. With him gone, the Sunnis and Shites are no longer afraid of their government, and are slaughtering each other.

That said, I still think we handled the Saddam situation all wrong.

Civil conflict is a common part of a nations construction unfortunately. Our country the USA also went through much civil conflict as well during the time of our founding fathers and years after. It's not a good thing but it's not uncommon when a new country forms.

seems like wrong part of section for Y! Answers

however many religious supporters believed Bush lies who claimed christianity and claimed their god so they gave him a blank check

Saddam was a secular leader and while a dictator he was allowing different religions to co-exist

the US invasion against our own laws and international laws has created a chaotic civil sectarian war much like what's happening in the US to remove differences of belief and legislate Sharia laws or our own christian views into state affairs and create more chaos and fighting, which only means some few are making money to supply the bullets and armor for those trapped in it

No...Saddam kept the Sunnis and Shiites from killing eachother and going crazy...

After he lost power...they all went nuts...
the world is actually, accept it or not, a worse place without saddam...

There's some biblical irony for you...

Actually the US government supported Saddam for many years, until it became expedient to take him out to control all oil supplies in the world.
