Don’t take this the wrong way, but I grew up in Australia. Its just fact that Australians are dumb. They have no idea about anything outside of Australia; they have no idea about geography (the even think that Holland is a country). They are known for having one of the worst education systems in the world. Most of the world sees Aussies as a joke. I’m living over here in Europe now (would never return to that desert island) but unfortunately I have an Australian accent and people think I’m Australia which I hate, as Aussie are seen as a laughing stock. Just cant wait until that accent is gone.

So sorry to say, Yes Australians are dumb.

You're worried about what people on YouTube say.?.? I haven't heard any Australians ever say that Americans were stupid or arrogant or fat. Oh, and you just did to the Australians exactly what you're accusing them of doing.

Greetings.
I certainly don't think this is just confined to Australians. The fact is it happens to most nationalities. The American public want to see us in this way. They can relate. They don't want to know we're.Just like them civilized, living in Cities, towns etc. They want to believe there is an untapped wilderness out there, where the land, animals, Men, women are untamed and natural in their wild surroundings.ie.The Croc. Guy Steve Erwin. wrestling crocadiles, venomous creatures etc. Crocodile Dundee. When I was in the USA ,they asked me if I knew those guys. They have such an idea of Australia. I was urked at their ignorance, but they were genuinely interested too.So I said "yes infact I help Steve walk the crocks. We don't have any trouble along the walk with stray cats and dogs anymore(the crocs ate them) but we have to watch out for stray children(so the crocs won't eat them) he!he! he! they believed me."
I also said when asked about Kangaroos jumping around past our back door. I told them" we use them for shopping carts. They jump along behind us when we're shopping and we put our groceries in their pouches."They believed me it was pitiful. I did fess up once That happend.I told them to look up about Australia on the Internet and they'll see we're no different to them. We have all kinds of people too.
I think it's the Yobs who go abroad and are just drunken Party imbosiles that give Australians a very bad reputation. Unfortunately Foreign countries only are alerted by these morons behaviour because it's so antisocial. I can understand other young Aussies overseas being embarrassed .It reflects on them too. They don't notice the majority of Australians, who are repectful, Intelligent giving people who blend into the population. Because they are genuinely civilized people with a lot to offer. If given the chance and recognition. The World would see Australians in a very positive Light.
So if any Parents have Young Adults going overseas to live. Please make it a priority that they are proud of being an Australian. Make their behaviour reflect that and us in a true Light. Not the moronic, beer swilling Cretin, that does still seem to come across.
Thanks.Ciao..

I myself don't think Australians are dumb.Australian film writers and makers are not the only ones who portray their country and the people of their country as some thing their not in general.Alot of countries do it.I lived in Ireland for 14 years and before I left I had an image in my head of what Ireland and the people would be like mainly partly by what films I had seen that were set in Ireland.( even though my husband is Irish and was and is nothing like the way the Irish have been portrayed in films I still couldn't get that image out of my head). My goodness I in for a rude awakening. The Irish in general are nothing like how they are portrayed in films, just the same way that Australians in general are nothing like how film writers and makers portray us.I understand that film writers and makers have to exaggerate some times to get a piont across but ther is no real need to outright lie about certain things.Even after 14 years of living in Ireland and kept on telling a good friend of mine that there aren't kangaroos jumping around every where you go,when she came out to Australia for a visit 6 months ago, she was a little disappionted that when she went outside the airport it wasn't what she expected. She had expected to see kangaroos jumping around the place and Koala's in every tree.Just the same way that when I went to Ireland and went into a bar there for the first time that I thought that every Irish person in there would be playing an instrument and doing Irish jigs.At least we can laugh about each others unrealistic expectations of our first times in each others countries.

No, you have probably been watching Wolf Creek or some such garbage. Every country's media produces rubbish and some of the stuff is really bad. Thats an example.

You obviously haven't seen too many Australian films. I suggest you watch a few. There are Australian films set in the outback just as there are American films set in the wild west but most Australian films are set in cities just as the American ones are.

Hi, i'm an australian living in new zealand.

I must say I love it here! I came over here for a holiday and never went back. I don't know If i could. I left beacause I was over the Australian spirit. Everytime you do something great they don't congradulate you, and try and bring you down because you are better than them at something.

We are not dumb we just like to knock people.

Other than that, Australia's a great place to live, but I prefer nz by a mile

We are pretty backward..

Our reputation abroad, particularly Europe, isn't great either. Australians are mostly known for getting piss drunk and causing havoc in public. We are like the new English, you could say.

I wouldn't say we are dumb, but our work ethic isn't exactly strong, according to the immigrants that come here.

But who cares, we are a rich nation, money is easy to make, whats to complain?
