I've popped out the old wheel stud on my front driver side and slid the new one in the hole (w/o taking the hub apart). I then screwed my wheel nut (or lug) and tightened it as much as possible to pull the stud through the hub hole (like most people say to do). This is partially working, but its doing more damage to my wheel nut than pulling the stud back through the hub hole, i feel like i'm going to break something because i'm applying so much force into this dinky bolt. Any other ideas? I can't take apart the wheel hub yet because its held together by a gynormous nut that i do not have tools for.

Put a washer on the stud just a small amount larger than the stud. Run a standard lug nut on it backwards with a little oil on the nut and washer.

if it appears to be damaging nut it did remoce the nut and stud and start over with anew stud slide it in from the back hit 1-2 times with a hammer to start it then place a stack of over sized flat washers 4 or 5 should do and then tighten nut to pull stud through. note washers need to fit part way up the cone end of nut and stack should be thicker than your wheel

The nearest tire changing place can pull it through with an impact wrench completely in one fell swoop, how you got the old one out and the new one in without taking the hub off is beyond me, I would have liked to seen that.

the lug has to be turned around so that the flat side is facing inward
