Could fleas cause my cat to lose it's hair? She keeps licking her fur and wherever she licks the fur comes out..What is the best treatment for getting rid of fleas? Will fur balls become a problem since she is licking her fur?

Unless she is getting bald patches or red skin or scratching a lot, it may just be regular shedding and yes, she can get fur balls from it although this isn't usually a problem. You should flea treat her anyway though to prevent this being a problem - if you don't treat her regularly she is likely to have fleas, even if she's an indoor-only cat.

Get some proper flea treatment so you can rule this out - anything from a vets will be fine. I recommend Frontline spot-on, but if fleas are present you'll need to spray your house a couple of times too to be free of them. You always need to treat the environment AND the animal/s. Just please do't waste your time and money with anything from a petshop.

If you comb your cat and check the fur on the comb, there will be black specks/flakes on it (flea dirts) if she has fleas. Ask your vet about a decent flea prevention regime as they're difficult to get rid of once they're present - better to prevent them.

Give her some "hairball remedy" just in case. Usually when they "overgroom" (lick the fur until it all comes off in places) it is some sort of psychological problem, or it could be something else, too. For that you will need to take her to the vet. If she is shedding badly, it is just the normal spring shedding of the winter coat. Comb her with a steel-toothed dog comb and this will help her out. (Cat slicker brushes are no good for this.) However, you still need to get rid of the fleas. Do an online search on "fleas" and you will be able to get some instructions and information on the products to use, because you'll need to treat the house as well as the cat. While you're there, the vet could advise you on this also..

If you want to help your cat you should help the ''shedding'' process by brushing the fur and that'll help the cat from ingesting to much fur and throwing up hairballs. As for flea and tick amd mite control, the best ''over the counter'' remedy is Advantage and the absolute best product out there is called Revolution and is available thru your Vet or on line at "Pet Meds.com" . both these products cost the same, but Revolution is relatively new and not available ''over the counter".Advantage dosen't control mites and Revolution does.Applying these meds. should be done correctly as so the cat can't ingest it when cleaning itself and become sick.

Is your cat a outside cat, or inside and outside cat, could she have gotten in a fight? My cats fur started falling out on her tail I thought it was a bacteria infection then a few weeks later pus started coming out on her tail. When ever a cat gets in a fight and the other cat bites her she will get a abscess, because cats have a bacteria in their mouth that will cause it. One time someone brought some kittens to me that where thrown in the garbage, their eyes weren't even opened yet so I bottle fed them they got sick and my friend who has a no kill shelter paid for vet care they gave them antibiotics well after I ran out she told me she had some antibiotics if I needed them so she brought me Amox icillin you know the kind people use in a capsule from 500mg with a bottle with eyedropper told me to mix it with water keep in frig I used it and it worked just had to empty capsule in bottle and add water keep in frig. I don't know how much water to put it was along time ago. I think it a small bottle with a little more than half water
. give twice daily so abscess doesn't form. That's if you don't have money at time to go vet. It was same medicine the vet gave them amox.

Unless it's coming off in huge tufts of fur, she's just shedding for summer. If it's actually coming off in big chunks though, take her to the vet, she could have mange or something else that might be serious.

No fleas do not cause that probem it's just that fleas make them itch. My cat is loosing fur too but that's because she is loosing her winter coat and now she growing her summer coat.
