Thymia refers to mood. Dysthymia is a chronic mild depression that can be devastating if if seldom lets up. People can have so called, "double depression," where chronic dysthymia is punctuated by episodes of Major Depression. I am married to someone like this. It is not known exactly what relationship dysthymia and bipolar disorder have, but it is one of the types of depression that sometimes responds to mood stabilizers with an anti-depressant effect such as, Lamictal, Lithium, Seroquel, Zyprexa and Abilify in addition to an anti-depressant. Sometimes stimulants such as those medicines used in ADHD are also helpful. Cognitive Behavior therapy is effective to correct depressed thought distortions and build positive coping skills.

They also told me I have dysthmia. That was years ago.something about even though I have all the symptoms of depression, I say I'm not unhappy with my life, situation etc..
Sometimes I think I just haven't discovered any true passions in life, but I have a lot of hobbies I enjoy like reading, gardening, housework, and now yahoo! answers, hehe.
Last year I had some strange symptoms, they did a MRI of my brain, and said I have MS which I am now seeing a Dr. for. Makes me wonder if all my dysthymia symptoms have been related to I probably have had MS all these years, but not known it.
