I just got a puppy three week ago. I took her to the vet to get her first puppies shots. I forgot to ask the vet does this cover Parvo or is that the next set of shots. I need to bring her back to the vet in two weeks. Any help would be great for a first timer with a puppy.

She should of gotten a Distemper shot and that's what will bring out the parvo if she is carrying the disease. The Distemper shot is a series so she will receive another on your next check. If she got the shot three weeks ago you would of known after 7 days if she had parvo or not. So your in the clear from that horrid disease.

I think it does - but keep your puppy home until she's had all her shots. Since you asked specifically about parvo I assume you know what it is and how deadly it can be for a dog. Parvo is almost always lethal - large breed dogs can sometimes get through it with a skilled vet that has good technicians working for him. It's been about 15 years since I worked for a vet and I recall we had to clean up after parvo dogs with bleach (the only thing that would kill the virus on surfaces) and once or twice I had to sleep on the kennel floor so we could make sure IV's stayed in and were refilled, and clean up as soon as the dog made a mess.
Call your vet tomorrow - but for now keep your puppy home.

When I got my chihuahua vaccinated, the first shot was the parvo vaccination, the second shot was rabies, and im not really sure what the third one was. I will have to look back at my papers. Parvo is a deadly disease and when I hear people say that their dog got parvo, i look down on the owners because a dog will never get parvo if he/she got vaccinated.

Parvo is a very deadly disease. The shots are done during the 1st or 2nd set of shots I believe. Kind of keep your dog away from public places and other dog poop for a while as a precaution before getting the shot. It'll cost at least $250/day to attempt to MAYBE keep your dog alive if Parvo strikes. Very deadly and quick-acting virus.

if your pup got her first round of shots from a vet, then the parvo vac would have been included. the main signs of parvo are dark runny stools and blood in the stools. if your pup has this then you can go to a local feed store and they will sell you the shots for about $3-$5 each. otherwise, i would wait and ask the vet on her next visit.

I am under the impression that Parvo is one of the first shots they get. You should be able to reference the documents that the vet gave you, and there should be a brief description on the paper work.

I have many years experience working in a vets office, and the parvo vaccine is always in the distemper vacc. Whenever the vet gave your puppy a DHLPP, that is for distemper, lepto, parvo, and parafuenza. But your puppy is not protected against this awful disease just because he was given one vacc. You should really still keep him away from other dogs, dog parks, pet stores. because it is sooo easy for him to contract it. I hope that this helps you.

I am sorry to tell you this... We had a puppy who had parvo, he passed away. He was throwing up a lot. He would expel tape worms constantly. If you want to keep the puppy, and I'm sure that you do... You need to take the puppy to vet ASAP!!

Have the vet give her a complete physical

Good Luck

The shot you're getting in two weeks is a booster to the first one - i.e it's the exact same drug. I don't know where you are or what vaccines they use there, but basic vaccination does usually cover parvo.

All you need to do is ring the vet and ask which diseases their vaccine covers, you don't need to wait two weeks to find out.
