Walking, often among hills or mountains, as recreational sport. It represents an activity in its own right and also figures in backpacking, camping, hunting, mountaineering, and orienteering. Hiking programs are offered by youth groups and other organizations, such as the U.S. Wilderness Society. Trails are preserved in most U.S. federal and state parklands. Most European cities have hiking trails outside them. One of the longest U.S. hiking trails is the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
Hiking may produce threats to personal safety. These threats can be dangerous circumstances while hiking and/or specific accidents or ailments. Dangerous hiking circumstances include losing the way, inclement weather, hazardous terrain, or exacerbation of pre-existing medical conditions. Specific accidents include metabolic imbalances (such as dehydration or hypothermia), topical injuries (such as frostbite or sunburn), attacks by animals, or internal injuries (such as ankle sprain).
Hikers often propose a set of behavioral prescriptions to minimize these threats. A well-known example of such a set of prescription is the Ten Essentials.
The Ten Essentials comprise the basic equipment that many consider essential in the backcountry. These items are recommended as the very minimum materials necessary to increase the likelihood of survival when in the field. The Ten Essentials are normally carried in a small, separate waterproof container or pack so that they can always be carried on person, and are thus less likely to be lost. In the event that a hiker loses the bulk of his equipment, these ten essentials ensure that the individual will have the fundamental materials needed to have or improvise the human needs for food, shelter, and fire, and in some instances, the ability to navigate out of dangerous circumstances. Although they are referred to as the "Ten Essentials," the list is generally supplemented by a several additions, such as a plastic tarp, duct tape, sewing kit, etc.
The Ten Essentials were first described in the 1930s by The Mountaineers, a hiking and mountain climbing club. Many hikers, backpackers, and climbers rigorously ensure they have the ten essentials with them [1].
According to the standard textbook Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, the ten essentials are:
Map
Compass (optionally supplemented with a GPS receiver)
Sunglasses and Sunscreen
Extra Food and Water
Extra Clothes
Headlamp/Flashlight
First Aid Kit
Fire Starter
Matches
Knife
The textbook recommends supplementing the ten essentials with:
enjoy your hiking experience...It's awesome..thats for sure!

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.
According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

One thing I always do before leaving the country is to make sure I have at least one photocopy of my passport. For cruising you should not need to carry the passport around after you check in. In my experience, when you check in you are issued a sea pass/boarding card that will act as your room key, credit card on the ship (automatically charging to the card you use at check in) and your pass on and off ship. You should not need to carry your passport after you board the first day! I usually lock my passport in the room safe after boarding and only carry the sea pass, my driver's license, and a photocopy of my passport onshore. One thing I would never do is use a fanny pack on or off the ship; it screams that you are a tourist ripe for robbery. Some other things to consider/pack: 1. A Jacket - the ships AC is usually on high and it can get windy/cool at night 2. Bring you cruise documents with you to the terminal! 3. Don't over pack: If you can use the same pair of pants for dinner twice (ie with a different shirt) do so! The staterooms do not have much storage space 4. If you have a history of motion sickness, then bring Dramamine with you so you will not need to buy it on the ship. 5. Have fun!

Well hiking is hiking. You need to know drills if you see some animal. You need to be a good climber, and you need to have energy. There is really no basics, just walking, climbing, drills, proper supplies.

get a backpack. wear comfertable sneakers. put water and food in the backpack and anything else you think could come in handy. if your just going for a day water and food is all you'll need. you could go by a walking stick too, or if you don't want to buy one you can just find one in the woods.
