God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe says, "God, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No." Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
Next time you see me comin', Man, you better run"
Abe says, "Where do you want this killin' done?"
God says, "Out on Highway 61."

I think this is supposed to be a story that shows that obedience to God is far more important than anything else. Even the commandments as set down by that God.
I know what the story is supposed to be, but I really think this shows exactly what was talking to the Israelites...as the Bible would say, "by their fruits you shall know them". What then, can be said of something claiming to be God, and asking for the murder of a child...or worse, the murder of a your own child. If it is a God, it's a dark one, and not worthy of respect, or worship.

Good point, Ten commandments came after the time of Abraham and he did not kill Isaac! What God wanted was to test Abraham's faith in God!

O.k. first and foremost let me say that yes that is a disturbing test. anyone who says it is not is well psychotic and should never have children. That being said God has his reasons for everything and believe me I will ask Him when I see Him why that was necessary. Now as far as facing the wrath of God and going to Hell instead of agreeing to sacrifice his son I would have to say no only because his son was a good man also and was going to Heaven and if the Dad goes to Hell he never will see his son again. I don't have a clue why God would test someone in such a way but believe me it is only one of many questions I have for Him when I arrive to meet Him. It is a good thing I have an eternity to find out my answers

These are stories written by a man (or woman) a long time ago. They are just as meaningful as Aesops fables. Interesting little stories with a moral and all that stuff. Don't try to follow the holy bible with logical thinking because your mind will melt. Just read it for entertainment. Or ignore it and live life man.

Abraham had faith in God that even if he were to take Isaac life God would raise him back up...God told Abraham that out of his seed he would multiply as the stars of the heavens and the sand of the sea, and out of his seed shall all the nations be blessed..

Abraham was before the law was given to Moses. But Abraham was aware of God's promise that he would be the father of many nations, so he knew that God would have to raise Isaac up from death if needed.

(1) Back then fathers killed their sons all the time (not a joke)...
(2) the bible is filled with disturbing things...Abrahams account of almost killing Isaac is almost benign compared to other stories...

Yes, I find that a bit disturbing. but in my opinion, ...I don't believe the bible somehow...how could God command that?? A person will probably say, "God was only testing him.." but..... grr! I can't explain it.
But in general, I think it was only a test for Abraham. Of course God needs a "hard" test for abraham. :)
