In general, the shedding cycle in dogs in determined by the amount of light that they are exposed to. As the days lengthen in the spring, this triggers the shedding of their undercoat. All dogs shed, even those mutant looking hairless dogs, such as the Peruvian hairless dogs. This is because while they may appear hairless, they do in fact have very fine coats.
When a dog scratches, they are helping to facilitate the loosening and removal of any dead hairs.
Dogs that are kept indoors may shed year round due to the warmth of the home. The dog's undercoat exists to help keep him warm, with a source of external heat he does not need it and so sheds it as it comes in.
Unseasonably warm weather may also cause a dog to begin to shed.
Dogs may also begin to shed after going through a period of stress, including giving birth, undergoing surgery, illness, or being placed in a kennel or other strange environment.
It is impossible to prevent a dog from shedding. However, it is possible to reduce the nuisance that it can cause. Your goal is simple. It is to try to remove any loose hairs from your dog - before they fall off and take over your house.
Brush your dog daily. This will help release loosened hairs, in a controlled manner.
Bathe your dog regularly. As with brushing, this will help remove loose hairs.
If you have a very cooperative dog, vacuum him. Be careful not to vacuum his ears as it can damage his hearing

Your dog is shedding because of the warm weather. If you have a dog, the dog is gonna shed when it gets warmer. The dog will grow fur in the winter to stay warm. Theres really nothing you can do about it. Just brush him/her twice a day and that might prevent the dog from shedding in the house.

Change of enviorments and diet can often make your dogs shed. Also, stress from these changes can make your dog shed more. Also, with summer rapidly approaching your dog is probably shedding his winter coat.
Brush him every day to help relieve this, and if it continues, think about talking to your vet or switching to food that specifically helps promote a healthy coat.

It's the beginning of summer and animals will shed there winter coat. Add a tea spoon of cooking oil to there food for about a week, then bath and brush. That should help. You want to use a metal toothed brush.

Your dog is probably shedding because it is SO hot outside. Dogs shed relatively more in the summer months. They are trying to loose their winter coat.

She is a Puggle and does have a lot of hair, but I do deshed her and brush her. I have been giving her fish oil every and I'm hopeing that will help. I'm thinking that I might be keeping her too warm at night!!!!!!

probably the food change. you should never change the food of a dog or cat all at once. it can make them ill. change it gradualy, a little bit less everyday. also, have you had him/her dewormed? worms can also cause shedding. and if he/she is skinny although he/she is eating, almost a sure sign of worms/parasites. they are easy to get rid of. also do you have him/her on a cheap brand of dog food? this could cause major shedding, especialy in middleaged(as your dog is)/more sensetive dogs. i would suggest eagle pack brand dog food. you can -mail me if you have any more questions about him/her, my e-mail address is paulapirz@yahoo.com.
hope this helps!

Well certain breeds do shed. but I know for sure that Poodles and Poodle mixes do not Bichon's and shih-tzu don't either if he/she sheds a lot then brush him/her all the time and give him/her a bath it works when you take all the loose hair off of him/her.
