Before Jesus spoke these words, he said; "In my Father's house are many mansions (dwelling places); if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a mansion (a dwelling place) for you." (John 14:2).
The above explicit statement confirms that Jesus was going to prepare "a" mansion and not "all" the mansions in "my Father's house". Obviously, the prophets that came before him and the one to come after, were to prepare the other mansions for their respective followers. The prophet that came after Jesus had evidently shown the current "way" to a modern mansion in the kingdom of heaven. Besides; the verse clearly states; Jesus was the "WAY" to a mansion. It is a folly to believe that Jesus (or any prophet) was the "DESTINATION".
Jesus said; "I am the door" to find the pasture. (Jn.10:9). A sheep that walks through the "door" will find the pasture. A sheep that circles around the "door" will never find the pasture. One who crosses over the "way" will reach the mansion. Anyone that stops on the "way" and believes the "way" to be the end of his/her journey, will be out in the open without any shelter and a roof.
If Jesus was to be the Only Salvation, then why did he say,
"Not every one that says to me; `Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father, who is in heaven." (Mt.7:21).
Think about it !

yes...but that's the short answer. There's more to this verse than most people realize.
First, it is to be taken literally. Accepting Jesus as your saviour is the how you're "born again" and is the key to living in God's presence in the next life.
Second, also take it figuratively. Accepting the teachings of Jesus and following his two commandments (love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself) is how you get rewarded once you're with God. Most Christians, and therefore non-Christians, believe that the next life consists solely of everlasting life in heaven or everlasting punishment in hell but the New Testament speaks several times about rewards and punishments in the next life based on our works (good deeds, bad deeds and no deeds) in this life. You can be a Christian and still receive some punishment depending how how you choose to live in this life.
Third, the first two words "I am" are the exact equivilent to the the words "I am" in the Old Testament: Exo 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. They both mean "to exist" and these two words are considered one of God's names.
I hope this answers your question.

thats exactly why Christians claim it . also Check out John 3:3 or John 3:16 - 17 .
Me personally it's one of the harder verses to accept . My faith comes into question with this always . and I always pose this question . Is the Dali Lama going to hell ? I can't accept that for myrids of reasons . He's more in tune with his belifs than most Christians .

Yes...but, I interpret this to mean Jesus was talking about Love, loving God and loving neighbor...did Jesus not also say those are the two greatest commandments...by loving God or neighbor you are doing both at the same time as we all have a part of God within us called the soul.

That's one of the many verses along that line. Like for example it says, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12

Because Jesus came to die for our sins, and so we are forgiven if we accept Him as our personal savior. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice because he was sinless. Therefore the only way to heaven is by accepting Jesus as our personal Savior.

Yes, we need to repent (turn away) from our sins, accept Jesus' sacrifice as payment for our past sins, and try with God's help to live according to His word.

It is one of many reasons, but it is a rather explicit statement demonstrating that all roads do not lead to Heaven.
If there were any other way, Jesus died for nothing.

YES.
John 3:16 For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.
John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to be its judge, but to be its savior.
John 3:18 Those who believe in the Son are not judged; but those who do not believe have already been judged, because they have not believed in God's only Son.

Yes, but then there is the 1st commandment from the 10 Commandments, "I am the Lord thy God, thou shall not have other gods before me." Conflicting.
