Well, a route canal would be quite nice - would look quite scenic.

However, if you mean an infected root canal, then yes, they can cause all kinds of problems if they are neglected. Indeed, there is a reason why, in the Middle Ages, a common cause of death was 'toothache'. You would be wise to get it looked at.

An untreated dental infection can indeed spread to other parts of the body. But a root canal removes all of the infection, so there is nothing to spread. Depending on how advanced the infection is and how skillful the dentist is, the aftermath of having a root canal can be painful for as long as two weeks or not at all. But then you are free of the infection.

Root canal treatment can weaken the tooth as the part in the middle of the tooth is effectively removed during the treatment. This is the main disadvantage of haveing RCT done. You may have to crwon the tooth in the future to avoid a crack in the tooth.

I had a route canal a couple of years ago and first you have to get a clay filling once its done and then you go back and get a porclein filling. My clay filling had chipped so it definitley hurt when I ate food but when you go back and get the porclein filling its fine. Mine hasnt chipped or anything yet and Im not having any problems with it.

Never heard of that.... when a root canal is done it does just that tooth and roots are dead the only thing i have found is 1. their very stressful when getting them done and I will never have another one done again 2. the tooth eventually gets dark colored and gets the risk of being broken off (which is what happen to me).

the root canal is not what will cause the infection-- the thing that will cause the infection is NOT treating it. So- get the root canal done if you need it.
