Most stable: Unix
Best for computer-illiterates: Mac OS
Most support: Windows XP (also the most stable windows)
Best all around: Linux, either Redhat or SUSE, depending on what you use your computer for.

XP. It will never be Vista, even when it loses its bugs, because it deliberately degrades your audio and video downloads for copyright reasons, and spends much of your processing time on checking whether your software is legal.
I have used operating systems from CP/M onwards (and CP/M was pretty good too in terms of reliability). :)

The answer to this is a matter of opinion, depends on who you ask. Most people like the one they are using because they know how to use it. Ive only used windows, so for me its windows.
