Nobody can ever explain what labour feels like, comparing it to menstrual cramps just isn't going to give you any idea at all. For 4 out of my 5 labours, I had all the pain in my back, so the pain is totally different to menstrual cramps anyway! Everyone has a different pain tolerance level, this is why a lot of people opt for epidurals to help them through the whole labour experience. It hurts, it hurts a lot, but I believe that if you go in with a positive attitude, then it is a bearable pain.

I know it seems impossible, but taking a walk, riding a bike, or going for a jog helps because it increases oxygen intake and thus the blood flow increases, reducing pain from cramps. Hot showers or baths help, as well as hot water bottles. Thermacare makes a bandage type thing with heat to help with cramps also. Try to reduce your salt intake and drink more water than anything else. Eat healthily even when you're not menstruating. I hope this helps! If not, visit your doctor. Sometimes going on the pill helps with PMS.

i used to have the most terrible cramps. . . .try some of these

1. midol or anything else like that (I'm guessing you've already tried)

2. a heating pad on your stomach (this works really good trying to go to bed or just at home)

3. a few days before your period, start taking Tylenol or Advil or something. it will calm the cramps before they surface.

4. tea sometimes helps. usually peppermint.

5. as much as you may not want to, exercising stretches out the muscles and makes them hurt less. just try like walking or stretching (yoga-ish)

6. a bath!

if none of these work i would go to the doctor, not to tell you somethings wrong, but she can prescribe you a medication that will work better. that's what i got and now my cramps are minimal

A heating pad and an anti-inflammatory such as Motrin or Midol. Remember to drink plenty of fluids, and don't push yourself to be superwoman right now. If they are sharp, stabbing pains and it doesn't feel like normal menstrual cramps, get yourself to an emergency room STAT! It could be any number of gynecological disorders that need to be addressed.

take a pain reliever...regarless of what one might tell you...midol and tylenol do the exact same thing (unless it's pms formula...i think they add some kind of mood enhancer) so tylenol ex. strength gel caps or something similar would be your best bet.

then lay down with a heating pad on your abdomen. this helps tremendously. just leave it on for however long feels comfortable, remove it for a while and then repeat. this helps loosen your cramping muscles and i promise will help.

good luck...i know how bad cramps are. feel better!

Don't know if you take birth control pills, but for many women
this has proven to reduce monthly cramping. Aleve always worked better than aspirin for me. Having an orgasm (no joke) also tends to lessen the cramping. Good luck.

I drink pain relievers like ibuprofen, take a hot shower and try not to eat/drink very cold things ie. If I'm going to eat ice cream, I try to let it sit for a minute instead of it being freezing cold.
