We took our 3 yo dog to the dog park a couple days ago. Since then he has been favoring his hind leg until yesterday. All seemed fine, then he started holding his front paw up(he had been walking fine on it most of the day-and he is a house dog only goes out side on a leach). We examed the area to see if there was any thing had got into it but his pad seemed fine, his pain is all by his toe nails. Is there some treament that can be done at home to help my little man out? Right now we have it bandaged up with some triple anit. on it.

this happened to my dog a couple of months ago, but he hadn't been to the park. of course i freaked out and took him to the vet. $80 later, we (the vet and i) came to the conclusion that he stubbed his toe on our stairs. it was because his toenails were a little too long (we do clip them, we just waited a little too long this time because he hates having them clipped. but we won't make that mistake again) and that made him more prone to snagging his poor toe. it cleared up on it's own like 2 days after the vet visit.

I'd say what you're doing is pretty good. just make sure he doesn't lick the ointment... and the fact that he is bandaged may encourage him to not walk on it, which if it is a sprain or he just stubbed his toe, is just what he needs.

if it hasn't cleared up after a week (from the time that the first limping started, not a week from *now*), take him to the vet. if it's something serious, it'll need to be handled so it doesn't get worse, but your pocketbook will thank you if you don't freak the hell out right away. of course, disregard this immediately if he does any crying or seems to get worse and take him right to the vet. but if all he is doing is limping a little and is fine otherwise, just wait and see for a couple more days.

I would try to schedule a vet appointment as soon as you can.

When we got a second dog our first dog begain to walk around holding up his front paw (only when we'd be giving the other dog attention), and he was doing it for attention basically. Have you brought any other animals into the home, or giving him less attention than usual?

I hope everything is okay with your pup!

No one, not even a vet can treat a problem if they don't know what it is. Please take the dog to a vet so they can examine him properly, find out what the matter is and treat it accordingly. It may be a muscle or joint problem. You shouldn't really bandage something if you don't know what the problem is because you could be making it worse.

The computer isn't your local vet, so take him to yours.
