It depends on the style of music. As Rock'n'Roll , The Blues , Soul and Country music originated in the USA most British artists sing these kind of songs with a U.S. accent.
However, as Punk Rock for example started out in the UK most punk bands (even those from the USA) sing in English accents e.g. The Sex Pistols, The Buzzcocks, The Clash.
Also Folk music is sung in local British accents e.g. The Proclaimers, Eddi Reader, Juliet Turner, Kate Rusby.

Not all Brits do. However mainstream British singers tend to affect an American accent when they sing because it's fashionable and makes it easier for them to become popular Stateside.

When you are singing, it is stressed to sing the vowel sounds, not the consonants. Because most of people's accents are due to saying the consonants rather than the vowels, you lose the accent of the person (well, most of the time.) Ciao!!!

The way you pronounce vowels when singing is somewhat different in head, chest and middle voice. Also, different cultures normally speak in different parts of their mouths. But for singing, you sometimes have to place it differently. I've heard Americans that sound more British when they sing.

I think its pronounciation and the stressing of different words and sounds vibrating in their vocal cords that makes their accents go bye bye.

Or it could all be a conspiracy!!!

I'm voting for option two!

It's because most of the singing is computerized to make it sound better(Sometimes it's even lip-synched)

For the same reason Nicole Kidman loses hers when she's acting.

did you know that American accents are so pervasive that they have become the norm for musical singers in Germany?
They all sound now as if they came straight from your favorite shopping mall.
for that matter, the jpop singers my daughters listen to also have that Muzak sound, too.
Thank goodness classical music teaches us respect for other
languages...
