add and remove programs
remove programs you are not using
click start bottom left on task bar
control panel
add and remove programs
find the program(s) you want to remove
choose remove
reinsall if needed
check status as you do it
be safe

The preferable option is using the uninstaller that comes with the program in question. Go to Start, All Programs and find your program and check if an uninstaller is there. If not, follow the steps listed above about Add/Remove Programs. Some computers require a reboot to complete the uninstallation process.
Also there are some programs that need a standalone uninstaller. Adobe Flash is one of them.
If you can advise which program you want to uninstall, someone can proide you with more explicit info.

After you go to control panel-add/remove as the others recommended, if its not fully deleted--do a search(click start, then search,all files and folders--then right click/delete whatever is left.

I'm assuming you're using windows xp--go to start, control panel, add/remove programs, and select what you want to remove from there.
