Hola RaBert,

In colloquial Spanish, a girl.

It should be noted that 'chavala' (and 'chaval'; boy) derives from the Caló[1] word 'chavó' (boy).
While chavala is a very popular word in Spain, the word 'chava' is preferred in countries like Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and other Central American countries.
