It seems that the power of the mind would be the only possible way God could have contemplate, designed, and initiated the cosmos. We can close our eyes and imagine so many things on a whim, and while most of them are merely superficial images without depth, what if God could give them that necessary depth?

No, God is part of our imagination. Religions are just organized superstition.

What if... the 'god' of which you speak is also produced when "...we close our eyes and imagine so many things on a whim"... Wouldn't that image be just as superficial?

You are giving God human features. Humans tend to think that all things behave and act like us. For example, this ability of ours has allowed cats and dogs to integrate in human society. Scientists have shown that dogs and cats understand very little of what a human says (most dogs have a 30 word vocabulary). Instead dogs and cats use many physical and non-verbal cues to follow our commands.

We as humans have no idea behind many of God's acts.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

(my dream and someone else's dream cannot be fruitful and multiply)

If so, I'd say we are more a part of God's nightmare.

Peace.
