I've made my share of kitchen booboos.
1. When I was a teen, I wanted to impress my boyfriend with his favorite......tapioca pudding. I was so eager to get it done, I only read part of the directions on the box. I added the whole box to the water, then forgot about it while chatting on the phone. It came out more like cement that pudding, and the whole pot had to be thrown away.
2. Once I had 2 artichokes on the stove, steaming away. I found I didn't have any butter for dipping, so made a "quick" trip to the store, leaving the burner on. In my rush to get back home, I had a little fender bender, and 2 hours later got back home to find my kitchen full of the nastiest smell ever, and the bottom of my pan had actually burned off, stuck to the burner, and the sides of the pan came up in my hand.

NEVER leave the stove on, even for a quick trip! (the store was only 2 blocks away.

Well, I was making four industrial sized carrot cakes for sale in a shop and when I took them out of the oven, I noticed they were a strange colour - sort of - carrotless. I discovered the carrots on the side, neatly grated. I thought I was going to get the sack, but the boss just made me a cup of tea and sat and held my hand.

Another time, I had just received a call that my sister was in labour and my friend and I were cooking together. She is easily distracted, and I was easily distracted that day too. There was an odd smell coming from the kitchen and after checking on all the pots and pans discovered the culprit. My friend had prepared all the broccoli and put them on to boil - without any water in it!!! She was so short of money at that time that we spent a lot of time trying to cut the burnt bits off the broccoli!

Yeppers, I came close. About 20 years ago, started to heat some oil on the stove in anticipation of popping some corn. Well I was also watching my soap and there was something happening that was very engrossing and I forgot the oil until I saw the smoke. Luckily I got the lid on the pot and took it outside but did burn a bit of the cupboard above the stove! OOPPPSSS

My best kitchen-silly was when I cooked a tin of sweetened condensed milk to make caramel. I forgot to switch off the plate on the stove, and happily went off to work. A few hours later, my flat mate phoned me to say that I had better clean up the kitchen, she was not going to. The pot had cooked dry, and the tin exploded, covering the entire kitchen, ceiling, walls, cupboards and floors with sticky caramel! It took me hours to clean up with the help of a friend from work. The worst was the ceiling. It never looked the same again!

Yes... my mom would do her standard meals during the week. There was always Spam with Mac'n'cheese and peas, there was usually hamburgers, there was usually pork chops with some kind of veggie, and of course, spaghetti & meatsauce. Truth is, cooking is cost-efficient, but it also takes effort. You can always take time out to so grocery shopping with her and select some other things, and you can always grab a cookbook and start something in the kitchen before she gets home. When I get home late or just too tired, my husband and I go out, or just grab something alfresco.

Well one time I was making peanut better cookies that called for 1 1/2 cup flour. So I put in 11/2!!! It was SO gross tasting! But, no, I've never burnt the house down.

I was talking to my husband and got distracted. I forgot the stove burner was hot and put a margerine container on the element. 5 minutes later I went to grab the margerine. It had melted onto the element, creating quite the mess. The smell alone was terrible, but try cleaning melted plastic off your stove! Not fun at all.
