Say you found a piece of paper on the street and you were confident it was someone in your school who wrote on it. Is it possible to track down who did it other than EVERYONE writing down something?

Erm, this is hypothetical people. I didn't REALLY find a scrap piece of paper on the ground. I just want to know if you can find out people's handwriting by a sample of their handwriting...

Given a writing sample you could include and exclude certain groups of people based on the characteristics you observed. Right or left handed? How are the letters formed? What writing implement was used and how was it held? What sort of paper? You can narrow down the pool of candidates quite a bit before you start looking for them to donate new writing samples. The same general principles apply to many other kinds of searches.

Yes. The FBI has handwriting experts. If it was involved in a crime, they could track down the writer.
