I am in the middle of having my root canal redone on a upper back molar and have a temp filling however I think something happened when I was eating and it has gone up into my tooth. I now cannot eat on it because there is such sharp pains. It doesnt hurt all the time only when eating on it. Has anyone had this happen? Do I need to go back before my next appointment in a month or shall i just wait but not eat on that side?

You need to make an emergency appointment and get this sorted quickly. If left for a month bacteria will enter the hole and may cause an abcess - extremly painful. And even if it were not to happen you can't go a month with a hole in your tooth - its not right that you remain in pain. I suggest first thing in the morning ring the dentist and tell them your situation - they should fit you in that day!!

Some people seem to be giving you all manner of diagnoses for your problem on this forum. It is possible that a temporary filling during root canal treatment could go up into your tooth so it's important you book in and see your dentist to get the temp. filling sorted out as this will reduce the risk of infection etc.

You can expect some pain 2 to 3 days after the cleaning of the canal. The infection may not be completely cleared up yet. However, a root canal is typically irregularly shaped, and may have some branches your dentist may not have discovered thus far in your procedure, which might explain why the filling seems to have moved. Or, you may have a cyst your dentist didn't see...I would definately see your dentist before next month, just to be sure.

You've lost some or all of your temp filling, if its painful while eating go back to dentist to put a new one in but if its not too painful leave it until your next appointment.
Good luck

You are not meant to eat for 3 hours if its quite new try and rinse out with water, couldn't have been put in right call your dentist, root canal can so easily get reinfected

No you need to get in to see the dentist asap. If you lose the filling completely you can risk getting another infection in there and have to do the same procedure all over again and more costs. Get it taken care of now.

"Going up into tooth" is not an option - the hole is much too small for that to happen - you lost your temporary filling - go back to the dentist as soon as possible.

the only way something like that would have happened is if they missed part of the cavity that they were supposed to take out in the first place. Or it could just be that you've lost it or it's loose, but no matter what it is you shoiuld definitely get it checked out right away!

Your temporary filing has probably cracked and this is causing your pain ,
yes I would go back to the dentist, let him/her take a look.
