I recently read an answer that was a 45 page essay on Muhammed and the evolution of Islam written by a doctor of philosophy. That's admirable but, do you think this is the proper forum for such a long work?

No. They should be concise. And many times so-called questions or answers are only disguised rants in favor of whatever belief is held by the person who posted it.

When you editorialize an answer like that people are less likely to read it so you don't really get your point across. Short and to the point is always best. Is it the proper forum? I don't really know because I always just take what I need and leave the rest. You will lose my interest anyways if it's so long.

I think the proper forum for the mega answers is a PhD dissertation and NOT Yahoo answers. Some people like to hear themselves talk or read their own words a bit too much!

This isn't the forum for those kind of answers. Most people here only read a couple of paragraghs and ignore the really long dissertations. C'mon folks, short and to the point.

Depends on the question.

I do hate mindless copying and pasting of long diatribes that are only slightly related to the question.

However, if someone is actually writing a comprehensive answer, themselves, and directly addressing the question, then it doesn't really matter if it is a bit long.

Most of those answers are copy and pastes. Sometimes when I answer questions, my answers ARE really long. It depends on whether the question requires a long answer or not. Sometimes I only have to type a few words.

I do relish having the flexibility to cover the solutions I dislike or locate unhelpful....dare we are hoping that Yahoo has some sort of counter which will show a trend in low rankings on a number of the extra abusive responders?

I think that is a bit extreme. I would think a person could make a good defense of their faith one one particular subject in 2 or 3 paragraphs at the most... Jim

NOOOooooo, I really hate it when the post Or an answer is a mile long, especially the answer because it is rude and taking advantage of the situation... It's like, "it's my question, you have no right to preach your point and be a hog..."

i guess they can do what they want, but its stupid when you think about it. who do these people think they are that other people would want to read a 45 page essay? they need to get over themselves.
