There are all different types of catfish bait, some you can get very easy. These range from Chicken livers to Ivory soap. When I catfish I like to use fresh bait like cut or live bluegill, or shad. If you don't have access to a bait shop you will have to catch your bait yourself catching shad with a cast net is usually very easy finding them can be hard sometimes but once you find them you'll have more than you need. Other baits include hot dogs, stinkbait, chicken livers which are hard to keep on hook, you can use a treble hook to help.

ALL DEPENDS IF YOU ARE RIVER FISHING OR IN A POND OR LAKE. I ALWAYS CATCH A FEW BLUEGILL FIRST THEN CUT OFF THEIR HEADS HOOK THEM THROUGH THE EYE HOLE AND CAST IT OUT THERE. OR IF YOU ARE RIVER FISHING YOU CAN PUT A TREBLE HOOK ON AND PUT THE BAIT INSIDE A PEICE OF PANTYHOSE SO THEY CAN NOT SUCK TH BAIT OFF THE HOOK. WORKS EVERYTIME.

I like to take a treble hook and put a huge night crawler on it with chicken livers. It works wonders.
