I am trying to lose about 20 pounds and am not quite sure where to go with it. I have no experience with exercising, and therefore no exercise equipment. Being that I'm low on cash, I tend to eat rarely and try to make it as healthy as possible.

My question is, what would you suggest to someone (a female) who had these goals?

-To lose 20 pounds as quickly as possible, but in a healthy manner
-To not use diet pills or anything like that
--To learn effective ways to tone the entire body

First of all 20 lbs to be lost correctly should take about 10 weeks (2lbs per week rule). It has been proven by multiply meta-analysis studies that weight lost fast will also comeback fast becasue it is caused by a dramatic life change. Second of all 20 lbs may be too much make sure you are going into a healthy range for your height. A so-so scale like BMI can give you this range just google BMI chart.

Exercise
Walking and running can provide the needed aerobic activity to help burn calories and tone muscle in the legs and buttocks. Make sure that your are spending 30 minutes a day walking or running. A simple way to know if you are getting good exercise without tracking your heart rate you should be warm and breathing hard but able to speak.
There is no such thing as toning muscle what you can do is loose the weight. Buy some pilates, tae-bow... exercise DVD's these are great for strength without needing equipment. These are great and will help build muscle making you look more "tone." Inexpensive things to acquire may be an exercise balance ball ($20 at bed, bath and beyond) use this as a chair when typing and it will strengthen your core and some resistance bands (very cheap).
Lastly nutrition.
Make sure you are taking in at least 1200 calories per day otherwise you will go into a starvation phase and your body will not burn calories. Eat a healthy (lots of veggies) balanced and variety filled diet. Try to find a farmers market, these have vegies for cheap. It is very important to visit your doctor to address your general health and make sure that you can start a program to loose weight. He/she should be willing to help you in your weight loss goal.
good luck.

The quickest way to lose that much weight in 1 or 2 months will be a low carb way of eating(aka diet) such as Atkins. You will lose about 4-10+ pounds plus during induction and I'm sure that you can get close to 20 pounds in two months. The basics of the diet is simple, you don't need to buy a book. Remember less than 20 carbs a day. If you are on the road, eat one or two McDonald's double cheeseburgers with just meat and cheese and no bun for 280 cals each. You need it to be hypocaloric, look at an online calorie estimator for you size, weight and height. Then aim for that amount of calories. Although with a low carb diet you'll find you wont have to count rigorously and just use estimates. Good Luck!

You don't need any exercise equipment to exercise. Tie your sneakers on your feet and start walking or jogging. If you have cable TV, find the stations that have fitness programs you can workout to (tape them if they are on at inconvenient times for you). Buy some workout videos or DVDs (or ask for them as gifts) or find some on youtube for free.

Eat a healthy, well balanced diet of no less than 3 meals a day (4 - 6 small meals is better). Eating rarely isn't healthy and actually slows weightloss because your metabolism slows down.

Don't skip meals...buy foods that are inexpensive but healthy, don't eat out, drink lots of water. If you just don't have money for food, consider a 2nd job or trying to qualify for food bank or church food donations, food stamps, or whatever is available in your area. Eating isn't an option, it's a life-or-death necessity. If you can cut other bills so you can have more money for food, then do that.

Eating right, and exercising 5 days a week for about 1 hr a day (more if you desire) will have you well on your way to fitness and weightloss. ☺

You don't need all that equipment, all you need is a milk jug or a water jug and you can exercise your arms.
All you need is your couch to work on your legs and butt.
Go for a walk every day for more than ten minutes, eat healthy and get plently of rest.
Don't stress about it and only weigh yourself no more than once a week.
Keep a rutine, so even if you aren't in the mood to walk set a time every day and get outside.
good luck and have fun

You have to eat in a caloric deficit to lose bodyfat. That means eating fewer calories than your body uses. A deficit can be created by lowering calories and/or upping the amount or physical activity done. I prefer a combination of the two. Weight training and cardiovascular exercise, along w/ eating in a caloric deficit, are both great when trying to tighten up your body. :)
