A dog or a monkey may have meaning only in the context of his species, his troupe or pack. But a human has meaning as an individual.

The meaning I am looking for is to be useful, to serve some purpose.

While I was still working as a legal secretary, I could be useful to my boss and to his clients, and in some sense to the abstraction of Justice. Every time I did things the right way instead of taking short-cuts or being dishonest in any way, I was a part of the system which, used properly, fosters Justice.

Now that I am retired/disabled, I need a new sense of purpose. My meaning at the moment is to find that purpose. Yes, I feel I still have plenty to contribute, but lately it is little more than some small value of my experience to the young couple who take me shopping every week.

Unless, of course, my participation in Yahoo Answers has meaning. Most of my questions and answers were wiped out in the SBC mix-up when I moved, but perhaps a spark of wisdom here and there still resides in the database.

Life has a meaning, but not a very clear and/or relevant one. We live, we love, we die. Then we go to hypothetical hereafter and rot in the ground. Thats life.

My dogs have meaning to me. They matter to me and I love them and treat them well. That is the meaning of their lives. To treat them as well as I possibly can for the short amount of time that they are going to be on this earth.

Life has the meaning that you give to it. It has to come from within you, rather than from outside sources.

The purpose of life is to make more of it. But humans have the power to choose their own purpose; Carl Sagan said: "If you want your life to have significance, do something significant."

all life has meaning, we all have a meaning, we all have a purpose, sadly many use religion as guidance and to be their purpose, they have forgotten what real living is all about.
