Because it is only human and natural just like girls masturbate. It usually is not anything personal, just sometimes they want to relieve tension without all of the work. Maybe they aren't in the mood for the emotional aspects of sex, and maybe they just get in the mood to do it and know that there are no strings attached. It is a safe way to live out a fantasy. Guys and girls alike do it.

it's not just guys. but to answer your question my husband does it to releave sexual tension. He has a very high sex drive that i can't always accommodate.
