I just moved to Canada, but the answer is a qualified yes, you can get what they call "a disability pension." from the "Canada Pension Plan"

You also get housing assistance from the Province, you pay a very modest price for apartments constructed and maintained by the by the province.

I've heard though the process takes at least a year and you have to have good documentation from a Psychiatrist and undergo an evaluation from the Government's Psychiatrists.

But if you are eligible the benefits are very generous comapared to American standards.

Canada has ways to support such things. You have to start by seeing your doctor and being diagnosed before anything can be done about it. Then it's all red tape through the government to be compensated. It's a must that you start with your family doctor to get the ball rolling, he knows the procedures.

Here in the US ... a long history of mental health issues that prevent employment can qualify for Social Security Disability. I would assume Canada has a similar set-up especially since they take better care of the health of their citizens then we do here in the US.

Certain mental health conditions may be covered by government disability. You'll have to go through moutains of paperwork and provide medical documentation as prompted, and you may receive financial asstance or you may not. Few mental disorders, when treated, will prevent someone from being productive, however.
