It depends on the woman and her situation. Me personally, when I get married, I am changing my last name, if things don't work out in a marriage you can always change it back later.

It should be up to the woman if she wants to change her last name or not.

It is a matter of personal preference. Some women are very attached to their family name and choose to either keep it or hyphenate it. The only problem with hyphenating is that it can produce long and awkward surnames. I plan on changing my last name. I like my family name, but I know my boyfriend wants me to take his and I have no problem doing it. It is important to us that our new family all consists of the same last name, but I also respect the choices of others.

it depends on the woman. Some women keep their name the same due to professional reasons. Others may just hyphenate it., while the rest just drop the old last name completely. Rather you should or not depends on the woman and her reasons.

I kept my last name but regret it now. I really don't know what I was thinking... haha. I'm going to get it changed as soon as my husband gets out of the military... (I don't want to have to get a new military i.d. etc. or I would do it sooner). It's your choice though. Some people want to keep their last name. You could hyphen it... I've considered doing that, actually.

Unless you have a compelling reason not to (e.g. you are an actress with a following) it solidifies the marriage if you change it. It also means that your children who will almost certainly have the father's name have the same name as you.
