After doing an alteration on Norton it asked me to carry out a full scan on my computer, this I carried out but my question is
why do I have 251942 files etc when I only use Yahoo, Outlook
Express and occasionally on the internet. The Norton scan found no viruses or anything else.

A lot of files and folders are hidden. Also some files such as a powerpoint file that is saved to your computer may be a compilation of several files. It scans compressed files as well and if you have any products such as Office they also contain a huge number of files. In actuality, 250,000 isn't really all that many.
You can set up a customized scan to only look at those files and folders you want checked when running a scan.

files are already there, any site you have ever visited is filed, any systems used is filed. Sounds about right and on the bright side you have no viruses or anything else, previous ones will be filed!

Norton is slow and uses a lot of resourses.
Try www.grisoft.com download AVG
Spybot search and destroy.They are free,download run a
scan with Norton disabled.

The vast majority of the files on your computer are the system files of the operating system (Vista, etc.).

Use the Issues tool, then the Cleaner.
