Is it true that I can't change the radio and have a new one installed because the stock radio works the security system?

My radio only has a cassette player. I want to get one installed with a cd player and the aux in plug, but my father said that if I take the stock radio out of the camaro, the camaro probably won't even run.

Is this true? I really want to go put a new radio in today.

No, it's not true at all. Here's the real deal:

The Camaro radio has a system called "Theftlock". This is a security system FOR THE RADIO ONLY. If the radio is removed, the rest of the vehicle systems won't be affected at all; but if Theftlock is activated, then the factory radio won't work until you enter a code. So it's only a potential problem when you are putting the factory radio back into the car later.

People get confused because GM also uses a system called "Passlock" in some vehicles, and that is a vehicle anti-theft system. However, Passlock and Theftlock are two completely different things; Passlock has nothing to do with the radio, and your vehicle isn't equipped with Passlock anyway.

Go ahead and get a new radio. Have fun!
