The worst thing you can do is rub them. First you need to take something like Benadryl or Actifed to help treat the allergic reaction your eye is producing. After that, lay down and shut your eyes. You can put a warm wash cloth over your eyes but just remember not to rub them. I used to get this all the time from pollen or being around cats. The stringy stuff will keep on producing if you keep rubbing it. If you lay down and shut your eyes for about an hour AFTER taking the medicine, the stringy stuff will form in the corner and then you can get it out with a tissue. Best to wash your hands often and avoid touching your eyes.

I have the same problem. My eye dr. said my eyes dry out faster than they should after blinking. I think a normal persons' eyes dry out after 15 seconds and mine dry out after 10. He told me to use saline drops several times a day. It has helped, you might try it too.

that can be conjunctivitis and it is very contagious. you can use cotton balls dipped in saline solution and wipe it to both eyes for washing. if there is swelling and pain, you can use clean thin towel dipped in ice water, apply to both eyes
