Robert Pete Williams, Skip James, Mississippi John Hurt, Robert Johnson, Rev. Gary Davis, Son House, and Lightnin' Hopkins. I'm into older and more unusual musicians. And I'm really holding back here . . . I'm going on vacation next week--who would I grab first? And I have to mention Lucinda Williams. Her first album was nothing but blues covers. She has obviously been deeply influenced by the blues, even if few of her songs now are strictly blues. I fell in love with her music some years ago, and I was introduced to the blues through her once I found out what an influence this music was on her.

The website below is a great start for finding out more about any of these musicians, their recordings, and the blues in general.

I like Joan Armtrading for a whole lot of different reasons than 12 bar blues...rythmically complex open tuned guitar player and soulful balladeer! "Show Some Emotion" & the self title album of hers are two of my favorite things to listen to besides blues...also like English first wave... Animals, Them, Zoobies, Chad & Jerremy, some Donavan, Yardbirds, Blind Faith (maybe best short lived band ever!) Ten Years After, then female vocal stylist like Phobe Snow,. early Linda Ronstand, Dire Straits, U2
and the odd, off beat humorist and drumerless band leader the fabulously camp accoustic warrior Mr. Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks! Early Police , Elvis Costello and the man Bruce! Cowboy Country Swing like Big Sandy and others.
Also anything Gershwin...but Rapsody in Blue by candle light with my lover...now that is good stuff!!
