I was told @ 1 year for height and @ 2 yrs for filling out.
I have a black lab mix, just turned 1, is 30 inches at the shoulder and now weighs 92 lbs.
Just curious how much larger he might get? He was a stray puppy, weight 8 lbs when I found him.

Sorry, no photos (too computer illiterate).
6 mos ago I thought he was just going to be a big American Field Lab. ( I have a friend who breeds these and he seemed right in line with hers.) But then he just kept getting taller! And longer! Good Greif I thought he's got to be mixed with something else. Now I am thinking a gigantic breed of some sort. He is solid black, and has of all things a slight curl in his tail.
My friends call him "freakishly large".
I have a Brittany that I considered medium until just now and now she looks like a little dog next to him.

Good Grief. Couldn't get back in there to correct that spelling.

Except for his height and current weight, all through his little puppy hood he looked exactly like a black lab. My vet said he was a lab except now my vet says lab and something else. But we don't know. I did think possibly mastiff.

Ohh and his temperment is everybit a lab. Never met a food he didn't like, is a water freak... any puddle of water is great to splash in.

Short, glossy coat. He was an adorable little bear looking guy when a pup. So much so that I called him Bear. That is his name. Not a thick coat though... so perhaps that is the lab. I am going to take a look at that site. Thanks.

Labs are a large breed, Danes a giant breed..so they have different growth patterns.
Labs should reach their full growth between 12 and 18 months...genetics play a big role in growth rate and end of growth... Your dog is bigger then it should be for a pure Lab, however he may be all done growing depending on his parents growth, etc.

If he was a Dane he could continue to grow from 2-3 years of age in height and not fill out until after the age of 3.Again genetics plays a major role in growth.

Being a mix there is no way of knowing what his parents are..size,weight, breed(s), etc.

Purebred Labs can indeed be tall and can weigh in at over 100#..This is not by standard but there are "breeders" out there that breed for taller, heavier Labs. There are Danes out there that only reach 28" in height and 90# in weight..again bad breeding is usually the reason.

A lab is not a large breed dog. A black lab mix that is 30 inches at the shoulder is huge. Absolutely huge. Why do you think he's a lab? Maturity depends on the breed, but most large breed dogs are not yet full grown at 1 year, although they won't grow much taller. By 1 1/2 - 2 they will be at full height, and then will start to fill out. Depending on the breed, they will mature by 3-4. Can you post a picture?

I have a Tibetan Mastiff--could you dog be mixed with some type of mastiff? Check out www.tibetanmastiff.org

From your additional details, I would definitely suggest a Tibetan Mastiff. They come in black, usually with a white patch on the chest, and have a curled tail. Look over the website carefully, because they come in different colors and different coat lengths, plus their coats start out pretty short and get longer and longer with age. What about coat length? Was he a furry black bear as a puppy?

Holy gods that's a big lab. he's gotta be mixed with something huge.

FEW dogs are much larger than 30 inches at the shoulder. My great dane is only about 32 1/2 inches and he's 2. My boy is about 140 pounds... but he's still technically a pup at 2. Most danes don't finish filling out 'til they're 3 or 4.

As far as labs go... sheesh... he's gonna be gigantic. I'd estimate 130-160 pounds on this boy.

Labs are not considered large breed dogs, they actually fall in the medium size for breed.

Small breeds usually are full grown around 8 months. Medium breeds around 13 months and large breeds are considered puppies until closer to 24 months (or 2 years). They are normally full grown around this time, however, I have a 3 year old that just hit a growth spurt.

So I think it depends on the dog and how it is cared for. Improperly cared for dogs will not grow nearly as large as those who are properly cared for.

If your dog is 30 inches weighing 92 lbs then from my experience, you don't have a Lab. Labs rarely reach over 60 lbs. A shoulder height of 30 inches seems more for a Great Dane or Bull Mastiff.

Do you have any photos?

With Golden's they finish growing at 18 months old then really start to fill out until about 3 years old.
Your dog is already much taller than a normal Lab and is a lot heavier. Is she mixed with a Great Dane maybe?

A Great Dane is not a large breed dog. It is a Giant breed and generally reaches height at 18 months and continues to fill out up to 3 years of age although that goes much slower then the initial growth rate. Majority of height is reached by one and can add a couple more inches over the next couple of years but not always.
