if you dont have money to pay for a dog you probably dont have money to properly care for it.
AND NO NOT THE LOCAL POUND.. these kids on here are stupid. the pound always charges a fee to adopt a pet. usually 50-75 for a dog. check the local paper or craigslist.org for your area for free dog.

there is no such thing as a "free puppy" that is an oximoron. Because even if you don't have to pay anything for the puppy you still have to buy
food
leash
collar
bed
crate
vet bills
etc
etc
etc
Puppies are like people and are nowhere near free. Are your kids willing to take on the responsibilities for walking, washing, and feeding? And are you ready for the financial burden of regular vet visits and the cost of food for especially a large dog? There is a whole lot of work into getting a puppy. Not to mention house training, leash training, yard training. A lot of time and money for a "free puppy" isn't there?
But if you truly believe that you are 100% ready for such responsibilities, then i would suggest that you check your news paper. There is almost always someone giving away some puppies there. If that doesnt' work, a local petstore, or vet would also know about such things.

There are very few places where you can get a "free" puppy and they may actually end up costing you more in the long run. A puppy from a breeder or a shelter may cost more initially, but they're likely already spayed or neutered, up to date on shots, and possibly even better socialized or trained a little. Your best bet for a free puppy is to check around for someone who didn't get their dog spayed and ended up with an accidental litter. But then you'll have no clue as to what the health and temperment of these dogs might be. And if this person didn't bother to get the mother dog spayed, you can bet he or she didn't put all that much effort into the puppiies' care either.
Keep in mind that even if you find a free puppy of reasonable quality, there will be unavoidable long term expenses, such as food, toys, other supplies, vet care, care when you're away, training, and so on. Also keep in mind that puppies can be a lot more work than older dogs.

I would check the newspapers because some people give them away for free. Also check your vet office because they sometimes have adds in their. If you can't find any you can go to an animal shelter and adopt one for around $50-70 dollars you can give a loving and sweet dog a well deserved home No puppy is really free because of vet bills food and toys. Make sure you can handle the responsibility of a puppy before getting one

If you put an ad., in your local pet shop or vets, saying that you want to give a good, loving home to a puppy that is used to children. Otherwise, you could advertise in the local free newspaper, or look in a copy of the 'Loot' free paper if you are in the U.K, for someone looking to find a home for a puppy for no charge. Animal charities charge anything from £50 upwards for a pup or adult dog, and they are vaccinated and usually neutered for this charge. It is very important that you find a pup who has been socialized, so that you are not bringing home a pup who is not used to being with children. Good Luck.

the pounds do not give free dogs they want a donation to help look after the rest of the dogs that do not get a home.
Why a free one, if you cannot afford to buy the dog, do you have enough money for the food vet bills etc as these are the things you have to take into consideration when getting a dog, there are so many people on here who have a dog no money to take it to the vets etc.
If your wanting a specific breed look on the net for that breed sometimes people have them & can no longer look after them & want a good home, sometimes they are free, but you have to face up to things nothing in life is free

If you are acquiring a dog for your kids, why a big one? Kids are not strong enough to control a big dog, which then rapidly becomes a nuisance.
If you can't afford to pay for it then you probably can't afford to keep it. Big dogs cost more to feed than small dogs, vet bills are more expensive as most medicines are dispensed per kilo of body-weight which can be costly.
If you are looking for a freebie why not advertise in local press, someone may have one to give away, and providing you are prepared to invest time to train and care, you should be ok.

Your best bet to get a free dog is craigslist. Most humane societies and pounds charge an adoption fee. However, many people on craigslist do that too. The problem with giving away dogs/cats for free is that people will turn around and sell them to companies for animal testing. Also, the humane societies and pounds have expenses associated with the animals. So understand that these adoption fees serve a purpose, but they are usually minimal.

Dogs are never free.
Yes, you may obtain one for 'free', but what about everything else? You need to pay for food, vet care (regular and emergency), toys, and grooming. That is hardly 'free' and a dog can not be healthy without any of those things.

Why do your kids need a dog? Especially a big one?
Who's going to train it to behave properly? Your kids?
Dog homes don't give dogs away, they ask for 'donations'. And any reputable one will inspect your home first to see that it's suitable.
Even if you find one for free, do you have any idea how much it costs to feed a dog?
And if you need to take it to the vets, it'll cost you a fortune.
By all means get yourself a dog if you want one, but please, not for your kids.
