"Perhaps the best measure of LDS Church growth is the rate of new church units, such as wards (congregations) and stakes (like a diocese). Because they are staffed by volunteers, such units cannot function without enough active members.
'You can use these trends to say that the percentage is slowing, the numbers have leveled off or they are dropping. They tell us what is happening right now,' Heaton says. 'But to try and tell us about the future is risky business. What if all of a sudden China or India lets us in and the [missionary] work takes off?' "

The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints has indeed shrunk--in a positive direction--in recent years. In 2011 there were 14 million members worldwide. As of September, 2013 there are now 15 million of us. Actually, some people consider that growth...!

Yes. The Church is filling North and South America, and soon the whole world. The Church has a temple in Hong Kong, which is now "in China."

Joseph Smith made a boatload of prophecies, and nearly all of them were revelations of convenience. During the early church under Smith, it's finances were in absolute tatters, and all the church buildings were mortgaged for several times their actual worth. The 'revelation' was to get more financial backers to support the inflated 'notes' against the church and bail it out of financial ruin.

It didn't work then, but the church is in pretty good finances now.

Seems like very obvious answer... the mormoms will rush in and convert more people and thus the leaders will have more money... although the mandatory giving percentage will drop due to lower income.

Distinguishing between true and false prophecy...Deut. 18:21,22 "in case you should say in your heart: How shall we know the word that Jehovah has not spoken>" when the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptusousness the prophet spoke it. You must not get frightened at him." and Deut. 13:1-3
