I would say it all depends on your personality, what type of dog you are looking for.............for what needs and how much time you have to take care of your pet. A golden retriever is a very friendly family dog.
Golden retriever:
* Is large, athletic, and natural-looking
* Has a pretty feathered coat
* Has a cheerful, tail-wagging nature
* Thrives on vigorous exercise and athletic activities
* Is steady-tempered and dependable with everyone
* Is peaceful with other animals
* Is eager to please and very responsive to training
Some problems with a retriever:
* A careful search to avoid increasingly common bad temperaments
* Vigorous exercise requirements
* Rowdiness and exuberant jumping, especially when young or not exercised enough
* "Separation anxiety" (destructiveness and barking) when left alone too much
* Mouthiness -- carrying and chewing objects, mouthing your hands
* Regular brushing and combing
* Heavy shedding
* A distinctive doggy odor
* A multitude of serious health problems
Boxer is another family dog:
May have problems with heart murmurs, skin tumors, digestive problems and hypothyroidism
Temperament: good-natured, affectionate, sociable, headstrong, high-energy
Active, playful, loyal, family oriented, are just a few of the characteristics of the boxer. A breed full of love for people and a zest for life, the boxer can be an ideal family dog. The boxer is unlike any other breed. Often described as the “clown,” of the dog community, boxers are a class all their own.. Those who own boxers can attest to their unique characteristics.
I have research a lot about German Sheppard's and they are one of the hardest dogs to have and need a lot of attention. They hate to be alone and need one strong owner in life. The owner of a German Shepherd should be a strong, confident, emotionally secure leader who desires a smart, protective, athletic dog. This is NOT a breed for an insecure or immature person. The Shepherd is very sensitive and will reflect the mood and emotions of its owner, often with alarming results. Do not let a Shepherd assert itself against you or achieve dominance in any venue. It will quickly take charge if you spoil or placate it. Allow this and you open yourself to aggression problems. The elderly and disabled may have trouble controlling this active, dominant, intelligent breed. Time to train, exercise and socialise this dog MUST be available. I love German Shepard's but they need a lot of consistant attention.
Here is a website you can check out to choose which pet is best for you.

Hope this helps.

well i have a golden retriever and he is the most lovable dog you would ever meet. But if you do decide to get a retriever don't get the wrong impression at first, after they get fixed the calm down a whole lot. Before i had the retriever i had a Shepherd and he...well... sometimes he smelled so he ended up being an outside dog but he was still very very sweet and my aunt has a boxer and they are friendly and all but they are very hyper even after you get them fixed. now that you have some info one the dogs you can make a good decision
good luck
p.s. all dogs love cheese

Golden Retrievers are the sweetest, most loving, gentle dogs. They are wonderful if you want LOTS of companionship, as they live to be with you at all times, and will do anything and everything to please you. Very smart too. Never had a Boxer, but all I've seen are real sweet. German Sheperds are also great dogs, but a little more independant than Goldens, and tend to be more protective. They too are very sweet and gentle if socialized well. My favorite though is the Golden. They are just the sweetest dogs on the earth.

I have wiped clean residences that experience had those puppies in them. The Golden sheds a tiny bit extra then the German. The Golden does all of it 12 months circular in which as you are going to get plenty of hair from a German within the fall and spring whilst they're losing there undercoat. It's extra of a do you wish to continuously blank up puppy hair 12 months circular or have got to blank it two times a 12 months. I would not possess both one only for the practical truth of the entire hair.

If it came down to health - I wouldn't get either! All those breeds have major health problems that I wouldn't want to have to deal with - although I did seriously consider getting each breed before deciding on another Dalmatian puppy.
If health and price weren't an issue, I'd get the Boxer. Beautiful, friendly and energetic dogs that would fit my wants and lifestyle perfectly.
Edit: For future reference, it's German Shepherd.
