We're having our wedding this summer, and we do not really have a kid friendly menu. We have about 3 younger kids under ten, and a 14 year old (who doesn't like either of the two meals we are serving). The place we're having the reception isn't exactly kid friendly itself, and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on kid meals I could ask the chef to make. He's an Italian chef by the way and said he can make whatever I'd like.

It's also a luncheon reception, but the only thing I can think of is chicken tenders or something like that. Any other ideas?

did you already invite the kids? you can leave them off the invite by saying no children please this would make sense because you say it isn't a kid friendly place.
if you are really sure you want to invite them i would either say chicken tenders or nothing. its rude yes but its your wedding - if you worried about what EVERYONE was going to eat, you would be going nuts! What happens if your Aunt Mary says she doesn't like it either - would you say "screw her either she eats it or she goes hungry" or "well i think she likes this - we'll order it just for her."

good luck and congrats!

The place I'm getting married at definitely doesn't have a kid friendly menu either. Working with the chef, we came up with some kid-friendly courses that will be served at the same time as the adults. For example, the adult first course is a cornmeal dusted soft shell crab, the children are getting a sculptured melon with various fruit inside. The second course is a salad of field greens with balsamic vinaigrette, the kids are getting personal brick oven pizzas. The main courses are a selection of either striped bass, fillet mignon or stuffed chicken roulade. The kids will have a choice of chicken fingers with french fries or lasagna. I think some of the older kids may opt to have the adult meal, but for the 6 and under crowd, I'm pretty sure they will be happier with food that is more familiar to them. Since your chef is Italian, maybe he could do some cheese ravioli, personal pizzas, or some sort of pasta dish. Or maybe offer a choice of one Italian dish and the other chicken fingers. I'd say 99% of the kids will like one or the other.

I think that your idea of chicken tenders and fries would be the best bet. Here are some reasons why: They won't get messy and ruin nice outfits like spaghetti or pasta will (for kids that is), and my kids love them (aged 2-5). As for the 14 year old, good question. Usually they like what the adults are eating. Ask the 14 year old if you can change one of the main entres slightly to something they would rather have. They might just want the chicken tenders too. A side vegetable is always nice as well, but nothing messy. Something like large vegetables. My kids favorite vegetables are carrots and broccoli. Hope this helps, and I wouldn't worry about it too much. I know they'll eat the cake LOL!

Most kids like pasta, and since you have an Italian chef, that shouldn't be a problem. You could do marinara sauce, or olive oil and cheese if you are concerned about the mess. You might want to ask the parents what their kids will eat before you pass it on to the chef though. That way you can be sure that everyone enjoys their meal. It is very considerate of you to make sure that your younger guests are well accommodated, and I am sure the parents will appreciate it. Good luck and congrats!

Give them each some fruit in bowls cut out in fun shapes like dinosaurs and a pizza tower for a centerpiece. I know the temptation is to get fancy with them but trust me, they will not be impressed. Those kids will flip with joy if you toss a Happy Meal at them with much more than if you tried a special "pecan crusted chicken tender with shoestring fries and chipotle ketchup". Cover the table with butcher paper and give them crayons to draw on it with instead of a table cloth, give them balloon centerpieces and bags of little toys as a favor. They just aren't into that adult stuff and you can still keep it in your wedding colors.

Ask if he can make mac and cheese....or if he cam make pasta and alfredo sauce....i would have suggested spaghetti and meatballs but I am sure it will get messy.

I know when I got ot a wedding I alsways bring food for my kids as it is not fair for others to have to make something special and it is less hassle for me....as for the 14 year old i would tell him either eat it or go hungry....I do not make seconds at home I will not do another meal somewhere....14 is old enough to know to just be quiet.

Instead of just chicken tenders, how about chicken parmesan? What about ziti with red sauce? You could do a chicken breast sandwich with tomato and lettuce, too if you want.

Just some ideas!

I know for my wedding, we're doing chicken fingers & french fries.

Hope that helped!

I would suggest Spaghetti, garlic bread and a green salad. Possibly ravioli or something cheesy would be a possibly good choice. If you want to avoid the red sauce which may stain children's clothes you could also try something like a chicken Alfredo. GOOD LUCK!!!

Since there are only 4 kids, instead of asking us, ask their parents what they like. That way there's a small chance that they might actually eat what you pay for.
