I enjoy Nascar and all forms of racing, but I swear I felt myself becoming less intelligent while the Nascar race was on. I have never noticed this before. Is it just me or is there a reason for this occurrence?

No it's just you, it probably has been going on for a while and you didn't notice.

The redneck, moonshine days of Nascar are long gone.

Did you notice each pit box had 2 or 3 laptops? The pitstops are recorded and reviewed by the teams? Can you imagine the dollars spent by corporate America on the Nascar teams?
The money and technology is there, in Nascar.

Also, you don't have to be a guy from Scotland or Brazil with sideburns to be intelligent.

Because NASCAR still uses carburetors instead of fuel injection. But seriously, by comparison to the IRL or the CCWS, NASCAR isn't as technical, because they don't use traction control, they don't have on board computers to measure every little thing, and are not supposed to have telemetry capabilities even though you see that on the in-car shots. The question is always asked as to why they don't have speedometers in NASCAR, and the answer to that is that the drivers don't want to know how fast they are really going. In the IRL and CCWS, the steering wheel has digital readout that tells the driver exactly how fast he, or she, is going.

Nah It is just you. When Someone switch from the Indy 412.5 (Race was shorten by rain) to the Coke 600, your IQ should increase.

BUt given that the Indy winner is the husband to Ashley Judd and the Coke 600 winner is a nephew to 4-time Indy Champ Rick Mears, anything is possible

There are some theories I have for this "dumbing down" affect you suffered.

1) You had way too much BBQ and just got lethargic. It happens.

2) You where in Lancaster County, PA where the power went out and had to listen to the race on PRN whose coverage of the race was confusing and pathetic.

3) You had way too many alcoholic beverages

4) You where just tired from watching all the racing earlier in the day.

Maybe your IQ went down because everyone else who was watching the Coca Cola 600 has a higher IQ than you.
Where as, in that WASTE OF TIME, UNEVENTFUL, BORING Indy 500 you were at the top of the IQ charts.

Just a thought

Well it must be you Bubba.
Maybe your int rest level fell due to the "ethanol"fumes from the INDY cars that seeped thru the T.V. system.( Moonshine is a form of ethanol.)

if you were watching the Indy 500 I'm concern about your IQ
if it was not for Nascar who would care ?

not in my opinion. where I live the Indy 500 was " blacked out " so when it was 600 time, I watched it in " mute " mode and listened to the 500. best of both worlds this way.
