I am considering a 2002 Mercury Cougar for my teen, is it considered a sports car by insurance reasons?

Add the car as your own and just add your teen to the list of drivers, get full coverage. I assume your buying the car and its in your name so might as well put the insurance in your name and just add your teen to your policy for all your cars. Works best that way and scare the crap out of them by telling them if they wreck your gonna get sued...just gotta trust your kids, last cougar I was in was going 135 on the highway, so if you want that kinda speed for your child then go ahead. Get em a 4cyl Honda with the way gas prices are they will love you!!!

Teen drivers did you enroll then in a "Drivers Edge" car control school? The course is also a good time to do some parent child stuff. Skid control and accident avoidance is not taught in Drivers ED. It takes years to get the knoledge they teach in normal driving. Lot's of teens think it is going to be just like gran-turismo video game. Kids out with friends at night for the first year especally boy's kills off to many young scienctists doctors and future inventors... Give the kid a car with a little more metal around it. no it is not considered a sports car...the car was based on the ford coutour/mercury mystique.
