As a parent of three kids aged 2,4 & 10, all of them raised as atheists, I can tell you that they love to be good not just for the sake of pleasing their parents, but because they seem to recognise that it makes their fun together more enjoyable.

If the little ones are given two biscuits or lollies, they will usually give one to the other without prompting.

If we buy something for the 4 year old girl, she will often ask if we can get one for her 10 year old sister as well.

When we eat out, we regularly have people come to our table and compliment us on how well behaved our kids are.

All without the slightest suggestion in their lives of some magical creator or God figure.

Awesome!
I've always had that happen to me as well when dining out. No one could believe that I was a single parent of five such well-behaved children. My grandchildren are turning out nicely, and we don't have the christian god scaring us into obedience either. amazing isn't it? ;)

My kids are exactly the same. I was brought up in a very religious family and indoctrinated to believe that, without God, I would be a moralless, crazed animal. I believed that God and the laws in the bible were what kept mankind from killing one another and hurting each other.

Luckily I found my way out of the circular logic that is Christianity and have brought up my children to think for themselves. They are great kids. I consistently have other parents ask me why they are so well behaved in restaurants etc..

I have come to relize that mankind has an inate logic that is really responsible for morals. It is logical that if you hurt another, you will eventually have to pay for it. Unfortunately many parents don't teach their kids to think things through, as a result we have kids and adults who don't understand there are consequenses for their actions. It all boils down to a lack of education, not religion.

Nice to know there are some parents who raise their children with manners, and respect for others,

The treat others the way you want to be treated rule

My mother raised us the same way. The difference is that we were also taught that when our bodies die, our spirits live on, and that there was a God and a Devil. We were told that being good in this world wouldn't keep us away from the devil, we had to learn of Jesus, and if we believe in Him then our spirit would be in heaven.

anywho It good that your children have those qualities, some christian families can't get their children to behave so well.
I wish they would-being a teacher and all

Being good and sharing can be done by anyone, believer or non-believer, and never once connect it to a Higher Power. The real crunch may come later in life for your children when all they know and are facing is "fear" and "feeling completely alone". No principle without God can be taught to help them deal with those kind of situations. Give them the gift of choice to at least have the option of calling on Jesus if they ever face those types of situations.

I also have a 2 and 4 year old. The 2 year old insists on sharing everything he has with his brother. We can't give him anything without him asking for another, and we know he's giving it to his brother. I'm not saying that they're well behaved all the time but everything positive I believe about the human race comes from watching how they are naturally.

Why do you care if your children are good or not. Without a belief in an eternal Savior there is no reward for good behavior nor punishment for bad behavior. There is no reason to follow any of the laws that govern mankind. These laws were set in place by people that believe in God. Our whole existences in the united states is based on the belief in God. If you truly do not believe in God then how can you even carry money around? Since even our money declares Christ as our Savior.I do not believe you are a true Atheist, otherwise you would never carry money. I would never carry money saying In God We Hate.

It is good to hear you have a nice family. We should all try to be as nice as children are when they behave nicely -- their behavior is from the heart and fully meant.

Adults sometimes are hardened by the world and lose their simple hearts and simple love.

Enjoy your children while they are small, take a lot of pictures -- time flies.
And thank you for phrasing it nicely!

I have some nice pictures of dogs on my 360. If you look please preview yourself so as to safeguard your children!

Good for you for pointing this out.

My kids are raised agnostic. We showed them both sides of the picture and let them decide.

My children as compared to my neighbors kids who are full blooded old time southern baptists, have beautiful manners and care about others.

Whereas my neighors 2 children (10 & 12) were recently kicked out of school for calling a black boy the "N" word, and urinating on him at the playground.

I agree that children do not need to be raised in a religion in order to be decent, generous, and well-behaved. The key is to raise them with both love and consisent discipline. It is also crucial to help them to develop a conscience and to develop empathy. That way, they will do the right thing all their lives in all situations -- not because they are afraid of going to hell, but because it is right.

It sounds like you are raising great kids.
