The gospels tell about the life of Jesus. Luke and John are often suggested for new Christians to start with.

Steph, don't be afraid of the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, those books within the Bible are the Gospel. And Gospel simply means Good News.

And the Good News is.....if you believe that Jesus was born of God, and is the Son of God, was born, died for your sins, rose and ascended into heaven, then you'll never have to worry about all those horrible things in Revelation because as a believer you won't be here to go through the Great Tribulation.

Read the whole Bible, not the last book. It's the rest of the Bible that tells you about a loving God, who sent His One and Only Son.....to die on the cross for the sins of the world. Through belief in Him, you will be saved from all the woe's of Revelation. Our loving God did not make us His Own for nothing. He sent Jesus for us. That through Jesus Christ we might be set free from a sinful world; and if the Son sets you free; you are free indeed!!!

That's the Good News. The Gospel. Praise the Lord.

Being scared really has nothing to do with what book you are reading it has to do with your relationship with God through Jesus Christ. If you by faith have believed in Jesus and confessed Him as your Lord then you have nothing to fear from any book of the Bible, If not then you have much to fear from every book. Matthew (one of the gospels) in the 24th and 25th chapters deals with exactly the same material as the book of Revelation does. The love of God is shown throughout the Bible but so is His wrath against sin and evil. The reason that people suggest you read the gospels is because it is in the gospels that it is explained to you how to have eternal life and a right relationship with God. Read John 3 for a synopsis of how to be "born" into the family of God.

The Gospels are the record of Jesus's life, his message, dead and resurrection. Jesus tells some prophecy in the gospel and he explains that we should not fear what is to come. Have faith in God and his words and you dont have to worry about revelations. But definitely read the gospels.
Good luck

The gospels tell about Jesus who is the way, the truth and the life. The book of Revelation should be frightening to anyone who doesn't have Jesus as their Lord and Savior because it talks about the end times of this planet and how God's patience will finally come to an end when He brings judgment on all of the people who have rejected the gracious gift of his Son as payment for their sin debt.

The message of the gospels is that Jesus saves, so none of the stuff in Revelation is anything you need to be afraid of.

One way or another, everybody is going to experience their own personal end of the world ... either through death, or by Jesus' return.

If some authentic Christian charity (grace ... God's divine life ... which IS love) remains in your soul at that moment, it's highly unlikely you'll end up in hell.

Just read it... you dont need to be scared. Start with Mark.

Revelation is for the scholars. Get to know the basic message before getting into the complicated stuff.

You shouldn't fear it! Rather learn from it and be strengthened by it!

the gospels confirm each other... and they confirm the misconceptions found elsewhere in scriptures.... or rather, they help dispel the misconceptions that others think they have found....

Be strengthened by what you read in Scripture, the letter is yours..... It is time, don't you think!! to grow from the fear.... Let no man tell you to feel the fear of the word... but rather find your faith much stronger in it....... and teach what you learn!!! You will find it handy as time progresses......
