Im sorry to here about your hamster, I also have a male syrian who is 14 months old now and would be devestated if that happened. It could well of been cancer, or something internal you were not aware of. They are such delicate creatures. I have my hamster regularly checked by a vet now for this reason. It puts your mind at rest. They check for lumps and bumps, hairloss, breathing, heart beat, teeth, eyes ets.. its well worth doing if you get another hamster.
As for biting, mine has never bitten. Male syrians in general dont. So it was just bad luck that yours did. They need daily, regular contact to stop this from happening.
Regardless of what breed you get next, steer clear of any hamsters that make screaming, squealing noises. No hamsters make this noise unless they are very scared or distresses. Get one that looks relaxed, approaches your hand without nipping, and in general appears happy and healthy.

Well he could have suffocated. My brother had a hampster who he left on the table, a couple hours later the sun hit that plastic tank and heated it right up.
Be careful if you have tubing, dwarf hampsters can't use larger hampster's tubing.
Dwarf hampsters you can keep a couple if they're all females. I'd still get a female if you only have one because dwarf hampster males are agressive. Males make most sound.
They bite only according to how much you handle it and how safe it feels with you. So start by petting it (reccomended a her) but stop if she cowers in a corner or something. Then when she is ok to let you pick her up put her back immediately if she shows signs of fear.
And a tip-if it ever escapes look in the bathroom or that closet that has the water heater. Every time my escape artist teddy bear hampster and my brother's former black bear hampster escaped they were almost always found in the bathroom for some reason and once in the boiler room.
Hope this helps!

It could have been cancer or an internal promblem. There are thousands of medical conditions that could have caused this though. Sorry about your hamster.
On buying a new one....Hamsters usually don't bite. Dwarf hamsters are sometimes harder to handle cause they are more hyper than, lets say a teddy bear hamster. Hamsters also don't really make noise

I'm sorry, I don't know how your hamster died...Maybe wet tail ???
I tink you should get a dwarf hamster. I have one, and he doesn't scream! Plus, he's way cuter !!!
The only thing that's different between a hamster and a dwarf hamster, is that a dwarf hamster has to take a dust bath once per week, but it's really worth it, because you can see your hammie rolling around in his little dust bath, and it's sooo cute !!!
My hamster is a dwarf, and as far as I know, he doesn't bite much !

hard to say why he died, mine died at 7 months from wet tail, fine one day, dead the next. the smaller the hamster the harder to handle, and very uptight and nervous. syrians are the best way to go, make sure you clean the cage real good if you plan on reusing it, and use only aspen or super shavins' for your bedding, the others cause respiratory disease from all the oils. i love my long haired syrian, she is cute and fun. i have 3 syrians, all separate cages.

Most hamsters do not live all that long. when I worked at a pet store , many customers complained that their animal died before 2 years old.

Honeybear hamsters are the absolute best!!!!
After about a week they usually get used to you, plus they are pretty active and not very squirmy. They love to run in balls, and if you clean their cage about every 2 weeks, there is barely any odor. Plus, they are sooooo soft, furry, and adorable.

I suppose Twinkle is a rather adorable identify, and "tinkle" is the toilet euphemism, no longer Twinkle! Have a laugh together with your hamster, and recollect to do your study to provide it the first-rate care viable.
