It is very difficult to show you the particular reference you want. Right LORD KRISHNA had said that he was with Pandavas because of Dharma. We all know Mahabharata and we can very well understand that Pandavas adopted Dharma. The two main Characters of Pandavas to say this - Yudishtra - he himself was Dharmaputra or Dharmaraja and Arjuna was in a Great Dilemma before the Kurushetra war and due to this only GITA was delivered to the WORLD by Lord Krishna. Others on Pandava side also symbols of Dharma.

Where as on the other side - Kauravas all the ADHARMAs were there and non-of them right from Bhishma to Dronacharyya, Kripacharyya, Karna, Karu brothers adopted any type of Dharma.

The whole Mahabharata and Bhagawat Gita are the documents or written evidence for your query..

This is basically from Mahabharata..Its considered to be one of the biggest epics out there... I'm not sure if u follow the rules given in the book, I am a Muslim myself but I do hear a lot about it being an Indian.
The Story goes that the Pandavas and Kauravas approach Sri Krishna at the same time for alliance. Kauravas being the sons of the elder brother had to choose first between Sri Krishnas army and the lord himself... They choose his army....
Later at battle when Arjuna sees his teachers and relatives on the opposite side he is weakened... He does not want to fight... Lord Krishna says that a King should not look at the face of his enemy while in battle... His Duty is towards his people... As a king your people comes first and then your family...
I Think this is the Dharma ure referring to...

Lord Krishna was referring to dharma ie. "Duty". We have taken the meaning of Dharma as a Religion and branded it with different names. Your dharma is your duty. If you are duty bound and fulfil your duty, you are doing your dharma. If all human being understands that, there will be long lasting peace in this world. Why did lord krishna stayed with Pandavas? Because their dharma was supported by truth. You can make anything your duty and call it your dharma. If it is based on truth, lord will always support you. That is the message of lord Krishna's action.

We are accustomed to question and answer mode of learning. So it is difficult to explain any religion in clear terms.Only science explains its findings, statements etc inclear terms.
Regarding Dharma --it has so many connotations. It means religion, your traditional work, your relationship with your people around you,it means doubts, it means confusion etc..
When Krishna told Arjuna Sarva Dharman
parjyatasa, He meant leave all your doubts and suspicions ,and end results, and have faith in me.In one public place they have written leave all your work to me-- .God never said be idle and I will do it for you.
The dharma(duty) of a warrior is to fight and not run awaay from war.Arjuna was not a philosopher and thinker but a warrior. His kingdom was usurped by Dhuryodhana by unfair means and it is his duty to recover it and not give it in charity to undeserving people.
Arjuna's wife was insulted ,his brothers were humiliated, attempts were made to kill them. What more insults can a true Kshatriya take and talk philosophy like a all knowing learned man. This is what Krishna tells and preaches in Gita.I may not be good at explaining but the gist is all of us have a duty to do and we should do it honestly and seriously without expressing dobts at every moment.
Dharma is on Pandavas side because they are entitled to the kingdom after their father's death. They were brought up by Dhritarastra a blind king.He is unfit to rule as he was handicapped but still he desires to rule which is a mistake.Secondly he has love beyond logic for his bad son Dhuryodhana and hence he wants to make him the king. This is unjust because as per the dharma(custom) in those days the eldest son should become king and Yudistar was elder, but the son of Pandava. This selfishness of Dhrutarastra
leads to all the complications. Also when pandavas were cheated in gambling Dhrutarastra ignores because his son was winning(unfair means)When a respectble Royal bride Droupthi was being derobed, as a elderly parent he ignored and got the curses from the bride..It was Gandhari who realised the seriousness of the situation and requests Droupathi not to curse and releases pandavas from the clutches of Kaouravas and gives freedom to go awaay to forests.Because Pandavas lost their father, they were subjected to all humiliations inspite of their eligibility to rule.
There are so many instances which indicate that Pandavas were mis treated cheated, and deserted by the guardian Dhrutarastra and their children. The other luminaries were bound by words of promises and servitude to their king--Dhrutarastra.They can't desert their duty and floor cross.Helpless intelectuals.Krishna realised the precarious situation of Pandavas and so promises them help.

you can find this in Mahabharata in details i am sure. Krishna was with pandavas to eliminate adharma or sin. if Krishna hadnt sided with them the kaurava's(who were adharmis) and thier alliance who were all at the side of adharma they would have won the war and dominated the world. this would have led to downfall of the world. and Krishna always takes birth to re establish Dharma. Pandavas were righteous than the Kauravas. When Arjuna and Duryodhana both went to Krishna before the war they reached at nearly the same time time. Krishna bhagvaan was asleep. Duryodhana came and stood near his head so tht Krishna would notice him as soon as he opened his eyes. When Arjuna came, he bowed his heads, folded his hands and stood near Lord's lotus feet. When Krishna opened his eyes he saw Arjuna first. Duryodhana (afraid tht Arjuna might ask for Krishna's help in battle first)said that he will speak first because he came first. When both Arjuna and Duryodhana said that they wanted Krishna's help in the battle Krishna said:since I cant deny any of you ,you may decide b/w me without weapons and my entire army. Duryodhana had the right to ask first since he was the first to arrive.he wasnt intelligent so he asked for the army happily. Arjuna said that he wanted nothing else except Lord Krishna himself.
During the war the Kauravas started breaking all rules of war but the pandava's army didnt cheat. Lord Krishna thought: "these adharmis mustnt win the war of dharma through thier cunning and deceit." so he took the wheel of the chariot and used it as the Sudarshana and killed thousands of rivals at each time he flung it. Duryodhana complained tht he was breaking his promise tht he wouldnt use any weapons Krishna said: "i didnt use any weapon, its just a wheel"he did plenty of things to help Pandavas in the war because the dharma must win at any cost.

Dhrama is not synonym for Religion.

The Sanskrit term Dharma (help·info) (Devnagari: धर्म; Pali Dhamma; Chinese 法 fǎ) is the underlying order in nature and human life and behaviour considered to be in accord with that order. Ethically, it means 'right way of living' or 'proper conduct,' especially in a religious sense. With respect to spirituality, dharma might be considered the Way of the Higher Truths.

Won't understand what you say ! in question you speak of "dharma" & in the details of the question you speak of "religion". Dharma is the characteristic of one & each and Religion is the system followed by one & each.
However , about "Dharma" in pandavas period please refer "Shrimad Bhagawad Geeta" wherein you would find in details of dharma.
Abut Religion you may refer particular religious ethics where in the system would be elaborated.

dharmam tu sakshad bhagavat-pranitam . . .
Real religious principles are enacted by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Although fully situated in the mode of goodness, even the great rishis who occupy the topmost planets cannot ascertain the real religious principles, nor can the demigods or the leaders of Siddhaloka, to say nothing of the asuras, ordinary human beings, Vidyadharas and Caranas.

Herein it is stated that the real religious principle is that which is given by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That principle is stated in Bhagavad-gita. Sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja: [Bg. 18.66] one should give up all other duties and surrender unto the lotus feet of Krishna. That is the real religious principle everyone should follow. Even though one follows Vedic scriptures, one may not know this transcendental principle, for it is not known to everyone. To say nothing of human beings, even the demigods in the upper planetary systems are unaware of it. This transcendental religious principle must be understood from the Supreme Personality of Godhead directly or from His special representative, as stated in the next verses.

Lord Brahma, Bhagavan Narada, Lord Siva, the four Kumaras, Lord Kapila [the son of Devahuti], Svayambhuva Manu, Prahlada Maharaja, Janaka Maharaja, Grandfather Bhishma, Bali Maharaja, Sukadeva Gosvami and I myself know the real religious principle. My dear servants, this transcendental religious principle, which is known as bhagavata-dharma, or surrender unto the Supreme Lord and love for Him, is uncontaminated by the material modes of nature. It is very confidential and difficult for ordinary human beings to understand, but if by chance one fortunately understands it, he is immediately liberated, and thus he returns home, back to Godhead.

The Religious principles are handed down from time immemorial and since it does not have any beginning or end and is eternal, it is called as Sanatana Dharma or as per the occupation and spiritual order it is also called as Varnasrama dharma. Pandavas followed this very nicely, so much so that even while they were in the forest, they were accompanied by the brahmanas and sages who desired the company of the righteous Yudhisthira unlike the unlawful Duryodhana who adopted evil ways to kill them in lac of fire, poisoning Bhima, tricky gambling match, attempt to disrobe Draupadi etc....
