Theres are no tests to prove anything definitively right? A friend of mine in the industry told me you can look at anything pretty much anyway you want...so...why on Earth is this reputable? Is it only because there is nothing better?

I am not a scientologist. Just skeptical about a 'science' that continues to 'find' diseases, isn't scientifically proven, and can be used to justify just about anything a practitioner wants to justify. Also, I lose faith in it more and more every time I meet another Psyche major...they are some of the stupidest, vapid, fake people I've ever met. If I had a dollar for every silly girl doing psychology, Id be rich. Especially the ones going into child psychology...I wouldn't trust these people tie my shoes much less the inner workings of children.

There are good ones and bad ones just like some scientologists rebel and put up info against scientology. It is not like true science. The only pure science is mathematics, so the more math, the more scientific.

So they do use studies with numbers in psychology. But they do stupid things like the ink blot which has shown to be absolutely worthless. Also many of them disagree with each other.

But there is a new psychology called positive psychology. They do not label all these problems. They study what makes people happy.

See the page below for more info on this under ENLIGTHENMENT. The 2nd page gives an objective view of Scientology under enlightened people. There are no mathematicians debating whether 2+2=4 but they debate a lot in other sciences.

The 2nd link on the linkpage has the best info on raising infants. A woman learned it from stone age people in the rainforest.

Actually Psychology is quite a rigorous science.
I might agree with you if you were talking about Psychiatry which is a medical practice.
There is a very strong distinction between them even though they sound the same.

Please do not feel bad about not understanding what psychology is or does. It is not well understood by most people.
It also has some pretty questionable beginnings with Freud claiming to have started it when Freud and most of the early researchers were psychiatrists instead of psychologists.
(I personally think of Freud and company as cocaine addicted quacks, OK)
However the science that grew out of their early shoddy efforts has become quite powerful in its understanding of brain functions. It has figured out how to formulate hypotheses and to test them with every bit as much rigor as any other field of research.

There is a part of this wiki article near the bottom that discusses it (and contradicts me a bit)

you might like this one but I find it a bit to much for a casual reading.

Your friend may be in the industry but that friend does not know very much about the subject. Definitely it is one science that has a lot to learn yet but it is getting there a little at a time.

Not much different than any other science.

psychology is considered an unpure science but in psychiatry it incorporates pure science and is becoming more and more useful and reliable all the time . Your skepticism is fine but the facts are unsurmountable the good that has been done in the advancement of psychology as a viable resource to mankind . thinking doesn't always work either but i'm sure you will continue to make judgments and pursue your opinions with all the expertise you can acquire.

Psychology, and its "extra medical" twin sister, Psychiatry, are lots maligned for precisely the explanation you have referred to: they do no longer appear like "actual" technological wisdom. easily, we comprehend little or no on the subject of the human strategies while in comparison with what we comprehend approximately, say, the tummy. The strategies is a lot too complicated to ascertain in in basic terms the one hundred bizarre years we've extremely positioned into the "technological wisdom of the strategies". it is made lots extra complicated with the help of the actuality that human stomachs are enormously very like the stomachs of alternative animals, yet human brains, and subsequently people, are extra complicated than maximum different animals. So -- why? Why "do" psychology or psychiatry? it is in basic terms like asking a witch well-being practitioner why he does voodoo. by way of fact now and returned -- it works. regrettably, precise now, those sciences are at on the subject of a similar primitive point as voodoo. the stable information is, we are studying extra on the subject of the strategies, and approximately human strikes/reactions, on a daily basis. as an occasion, in case you have a severe psychological affliction (that's "strategies chemistry long previous incorrect") then you may well be taken care of effectively. it is the place the "technological wisdom" is relatively turning out to be nicely. If, even if, you're in basic terms "disappointed" or "dealing with a mid-existence disaster", then you're in all risk in basic terms besides off getting a witch well-being practitioner that should assist you.

i have often thought so but that is because hollywood has made it even less. A documentary i watched suggested it replaced witch hunting or that could be it's close cousin psychiatry. haixan was the docs name. it was witchcraft study. beleif in witches turned to imaginary ailments which filled up insane asylyms some bogus ailments some not. people at times have had pills pushed on them an attitude seems to prevail drug up everyone that is the answer i dislike it it seems irresponsible to me whatdo medical professionals say can't drug people all the time drugs not answer strange to have drug war and have legal drug pushers perhaps drug dealers should take a course in phsciatry sure people will say good stop arresting them have them supply people at their offices same thing.

My Psych 101 professor was a 27 year-old, blonde-bombshell with her Ph.d in Psychology. I passed her class with a 98% average without ever having to salute her one time either in my mind, or in a locked bathroom. You should use both hands when in the bathroom. You shouldn't miss.

I have some questions about psychology, too. I'll examine them, see if those who put forth certain theories have a stake in the matter. etc. But "Im not a scientologist"? Why would you even say that.

I can definately say that someone suffrers from an inferiority complex.
Also, I would say this falls into the category: Contempt prior to investigation.

I am going to go out on a limb and say......that the girl turned you down for the date, huh?
