The pain of a tattoo depends on your level of tolerance and the location of the tattoo. If it is somewhere near a bone, it will hurt more than a tatoo on somewhere with fatty tissue. I have a tattoo on my lower back, and it was not painless... but it didnt make me suffer either. The size will also have an influence on the pain as well. When there is shading involved, there is a lot more discomfort. Its not like a sore, it becomes a scab... then peels off. To me, tattoo's are tolerable. My fiance has tattoo's on his arms, the most painful, for him, were the ones on his triceps. The skin is in a sensitive area. Location plays a huge role in the pain.

Depends stay away from anywhere on your spine, and around any bones. Those have always been the most painful spots when I have gotten my tattoos. To be honest the ones on my collar bones hurt the most. Anywhere with a bit of muscle hurts as well at first because your muscle is tense after that its not so bad. Any time you get a tattoo it hurts at first then that area goes numb and you don't feel a thing.

I have several and obviously there is some pain but it is seriously not like people make out. You can definitely cope with having a tattoo the best thing to do is be really relaxed and talk to your tattooist who will be glad to make it as nice a experience as possible for you. My advice is if you really would love a tattoo and have given it lots of thought - get it done. xx

The people at the tattoo store said that she couldnt say how much it would hurt, cos they dont know what your pain thresh hold is?.
So you cant go by what other people have said about getting a tattoo, cos it depends on how much pain you can handle?
So the only way you will find out, is by getting it done.

They hurt. Depends on your pain tolerance. I have them on my calf, ankle, wrist and back. I think the only place that really hurt me (and I have a high pain tolerance) was on my neck, along my back bone. I was in tears as he finished that one. I didn't think I could go on at all. But I made it through it and am very happy with it. They also are kind of painful for a couple of hours after they are finished. Kind of like a burn.
The test I suggest is to take your fingernail and scratch your skin in the place you want to have one done. Do this until you can't stand it. That is how much it will hurt. Tender places like under your arms and along bones are the worst. There isn't alot of meat there and this can cause pain.
If you are worried about the pain...don't get one.
One other thing that I have done before I get one is to take about 4 Tyenol about an hour before my session. This take some of the edge off.

It is like an annoying scratch that turns into like a little burn. Depends how high your pain thresh hold is and where you have it. If it is on bone then you feel the needle rattle your bone if it is on the wrist or a band all th way round your arm this is a very sensitive area of skin so that will hurt a bit more aswell

i am a big woose but i found it tolerable... there is no feeling of a needle, more a burning scratch. I felt more the pain of burning, which was very uncomfortable. i had my tattoo on my side basically the part where your hip becomes your leg : ) i expected it to be sore like a cut or an injection but it definetly burned. it doesnt hurt too much after, just be gentle on it. and take good care of it. the worst part is if it itches! dont scratch!!

Even if all the people in the world answer this you will still never know! Just go for it and you will find out! It will be fine as long as you are 100 percent sure it is right for you! Cherish the experience and remember a good tattoo is worth the effort! Good Luck!

Yeah they themselves as a whole hurt. Iv gotten two fairly large pieces done, One covering the top of my right arm,and I'm working on Left knee to below my ankle. On a scale forarm one to ten, ten being excruciating. Tattooing is about a six, and placement plays a large factor, For the most part, its all about the same, but when you get to those areas of skin that are more shallow(hands, elbows, ankles,) and softer(under arms, ribs, inside of leg)that's when you want some thing to bite.
truthfully, getting it isn't that bad, it ts the itching while its healing that's sucks the most.
