Hello. My dog is having a liver problem. She is a 5-6 year old Golden Retriever. She was not eating and now is, so that is a good sign. Her kidneys (according to vets) are failing. We have given her a ton of IV fluids and she also licks and drinks water now, which is an improvement. Now we see that water and liquids are basically in her, but she will not pee. Does anyone know a good way to help her pee? Thank you in advance!

If it's been longer than 8-10 hours since she last peed, this is an emergency.
RUN to the vet!!!
No matter what the cause, the bladder is too full and will burst. If that happens, the pee will cause a massive infection that will probably kill the dog.

Causes of this could be a blockage or infection due to prolonged illness.

GO TO THE VET NOW!!!

If your dog is in renal failure, then sadly she doesn't have a lot of time. Fortunately, giving her subcutaneous fluids can help her quite a bit (flushes out the kidneys and helps them function better) and will extend her life.

But this extra fluid in her should cause her to urinate more. She could have a blockage in her urethra, an infection or there could be other problems. When was the last time she went? If it was 8 or more hours ago, take her back to the vet fast. There is another problem. If you don't take her, the poisons in her body will start to back up and cause irreversible problems, including death. Please move fast if you care about this dog.

However, if it's only been an hour or two, give her time to go. The fluid build-up will eventually cause her to relieve herself quite a bit. In renal failure, she may drink more, have horrid breath and have a decreased appetite. But again, the fluids will help (for a while).

I wish you the best.

Er - you REALLY need to ask the vet this question!

You said your dog's kidneys are failing. You can't 'make' her wee -if her kidneys can't make the fluids into urine, then they can't. It's part of your dog's condition.

Continue with treatment at the vets, they're the only ones who can help!

Please talk to your vet about this right away. If she isn't peeing , there is an underlying problem. Forcing her to pee isnt going to fix whatever problem was stopping her from peeing before. The not peeing is a warning sign, please take her to a vet right away. If a vet siad it's the liver, its the liver, and your dog may be dying. Please, for the dog's sake...hurry.
